Now the chickens have been moved from the laundry room to an extra bedroom.
Vince had rigged up the light in the laundry room by putting a broom across the narrow path and hooking the heat light onto the broom. To get to the washer or dryer, I had to hunch down and walk under the groom but that was hard to do with a load of laundry. That last thing you want to do is drop clean laundry in with the chickens! So, they got moved into one of hte extra bedrooms yesterday morning.
I love having them in the house where I can go see what they’re doing and make sure the temp is staying right but chickens don’t belong inside so this afternoon, since it’s warmed up now, Vince will put them back in the shop.
They’re so cute , . I never get tired of watching them.

Are they adorable or what! When I was about 11 we had chicks (8) in our kitchen until they were tall enough to bite my younger brothers ( 9.5) butt if he was there! We had a blast with them! Off the chicks went to my uncles farm! Our dog, a scrappy little poodle mix didn’t care! He loved them! So I can imagine their little personalities as they are growing they are a cute bunch! you should write children’s books!

Such little cuties. Do you have names for them yet? I think the black ones should be “Charcoal” 🙂

I grew up on a farm and when it was cold in the spring, I remember having baby chicks in the kitchen in a box by the oil stove to keep them warm. Dad also raised sheep and at least one cold spring he brought baby lambs in to warm them and feed them a little whiskey mixed with milk in baby bottles. What fun – I loved growing up on the farm.

I’m thinking they may need a few days more in the house. That shop is going to be colder on the inside than the outside for a while! They are so cute!

I remember the smell of chickens we hatched in our classroom. After a few days, Yuck! I wouldn’t want them in the house either. But they are really cute for the first few weeks. When I was a child the path home from school lead past a local feed store. They had racks of eggs and newborn chickens every spring and I always had to stop and admire them for a few minutes before continuing home. They always sold really fast so the “show” didn’t last very long. I always associate chicks with the smell of wood shavings.

I’d get nothing done, as I’d sit and watch them all day long.
