When you already have a tiny laundry room, the last thing you need in there is a tub full of chickens!
The last two nights have been so cold that even with two lights on their bucket, and the bucket is inside the unheated shop, we couldn’t keep them warm enough. Yesterday morning when I went out to check on them, they were way too cold so I transferred the chickens and their food and their water and their heat lamp into the laundry room.
Speck is so old and has lost most of his hearing and he hasn’t even noticed them in there. See how big they’re getting!
Look at the feathers on their feet. I think that’s the funniest thing. They’re just so cute.
There’s always a favorite and it’s this little guy. He’s one of the ones that hatched out under the lights after the mama chickens died and since he’s the only black one, it’s so easy just to grab him first when I’m holding them. I so hope this one is a hen and not a rooster. It is smaller than the others but a couple of our hens were tiny so it could be that his mom was a smaller hen. Time will tell but I’m so glad to have these six little chicks.

I grew up on a farm and we had all sorts of critters in the house at various times. Especially remember coming down the stairs in the mornings to find a bushel basket full of new baby pigs on the floor register in the kitchen.

I remember as a kid having a period of time when we couldn’t keep our chicks warm enough. Do you know what it’s like to keep 100 baby chicks in a corner of your kitchen??

Love the “black sheep” of the family. 🙂

I’ve never raised any cochins with the feathered feet. Are they bandies?
CJ Tinkle says
Er… banties. Sorry.

Are those all from eggs left from your chickens or did you buy some of the chicks? You might’ve already mentioned that and I just missed it.

Awwww! They’re so cute! Makes me want some little chicks but I’m just going to have to be happy with the 8 hens I have. That black one would be my favorite too — he’s so sweet!

They are cute! When we used to go to the state fair, I always looked at chicks and loved the ones with the feathery feet best!

I’ve been away – what happened to the mamas? Are all of them gone?
Amy M says
Yes, I was going to ask about the mamas too.
Also, I tried to read back around Christmas when I might have missed the post, but I cannot pull up Dec. 2013. The other months are listed but not last month.

You did your second act of random kindness. Letting us know you’re healing and have a smile on your face and in your words. Can hardly wait to hear the names! Hugs
