Actually, there are two small victories. One, I’ve lost 3 pounds. I know . . I can gain 10 before dark but losing 3 is good. Not drinking 4 or more Dr. Peppers a day would result in losing weight even if we weren’t eating better . . but we are eating better. Just losing 3 pounds feels good. I figure I’ll lose 5 – 7 pounds the first week because of cutting out bread, junk food and Dr. Pepper but then it will taper off and I’ll be happy to lose 1 – 2 pounds per week.
But the real victory came yesterday when one of my friends enablers wrote me to ask if I was going to participate in the Eat, Sleep, Knit challenge. I was and then I wasn’t and then I was and then I wasn’t and then I went and put one skein of Bugga in my cart to make a challenge project and then . . darn it . . I needed free shipping so more stuff hopped into my cart and this is what I was looking at:
So, then I said to myself .. you cannot do this so I went outside and walked around out back for a little while, cleared my head and deleted the sweater quantity of yarn and kept in the 1 skein of Bugga and then I said . . no . . not gonna do that either so I closed out the cart and bought nothing. I’m skipping the challenge. I’m already doing The Loopy Ewe challenge, have two sweaters started so I don’t need any more projects and I don’t need any more yarn and . . I feel good about it!

Way to go Judy. You did great but don’t know how you did it other than extreme will power. Wish I had more of it . But I’m working on it as I type.
I need to know where you get you solar power stuff for you water well please. Also any other solar stuff to. I need to do some planning for what is coming if lights go out around here. Thank you so much or should I be thanking Vince for his shopping.
Keep up the willpower you can do it if anyone can.

Congratulations!!! You’re doing GREAT!

You are my hero! Now I will try to channel that resolve as I surf the fabric web sites! Have a great day!
Mary Kunna says
Way to go Judy. Can you please pass some of that will power over to me. I’m 4 days in and no fabric bought so far :-).
Sherrill says
WHOA!!! Now that is GOOD!!
Meg says
Woot!
No, Judy, not small victories…
BIG accomplishments!
Keep it up…
Congratulations!
Diana in RR, TX says
Good for you on both counts! I know you can keep it up!
Kristin says
Hooray!! Little victories add up to big victories!!
Nann says
Good for you!
How about switching to Diet Dr. Pepper? I know that people say that diet soda can be just as bad as regular….but if you’re jonesing for soda, 0 calories is better than 150 calories in a 12-oz can. [When I’m at work I have a diet cola at lunch and one in the afternoon. It’s an ingrained routine now.]

Congrats! It’s hard to put all those things in your cart and then delete them!! I know from experience, so happy that you were able to do it. Probably having all those other sweaters and things “in progress” helped with the decision, but however it worked, it worked! Way to go!!!
Sandie says
WTG! I am on a “very low fiber diet” too! Only allowed to buy a skein of sock yarn for every five skeins I use, and I’m only buying charm packs of lines I have been waiting for, and backgrounds for specific projects. Other than that I am limited to what I have on hand… Which is more than anyone could use in a lifetime!
Denise ~ justquiltin says
You go girl! I didn’t even bother to see what the challenge was and just deleted the email. I have a list of projects I want to make and the Loopy knitting Challenge and the Loopy fabric challenge so don’t need any more deadlines. Day 4 – we’re on a roll! LOL
Rhonda says
Good for you with the “not” ordering. I’ve done that so many times……put stuff in my on-line shopping cart but didn’t click purchase….thank goodness. I think just seeing the items in the cart soothed my buying spirit but not clicking purchase soothed my pocketbook!!!!!
Linda in NE says
Good job, Judy….on not buying yarn and the weight loss. Stay strong!!

Go Judy….go Judy….go Judy…hahahaha great way to start the new year. it is hard to make changes, though. i am down 4 pounds this week….so i know how that feels. and working on buying no fabric this year. times they are a changin’….hahahaha let’s keep each other straight.
Deb K says
Huge accomplishment. Go Judy! You are being a good role model for me…or at least making me feel guilty. 🙂
Emma says
Way to go! I’d recommend sticking with no Dr. Pepper for now…not even diet as someone mentioned above. Once you break the mental addiction to the Dr. Pepper, it won’t be a NEED anymore, just something you might occasionally allow yourself to have. I’d rather have something because I want it instead of because it’s a routine anyday!
Way to go on not buying the yarn too. Stick with it!
Denise :) says
Those are both BIG victories — way to go, Judy!!! 🙂
Adrienne says
Whoa…that’s some determination you’ve got going there…good on you!
Lee says
Victory indeed! As a non-knitter who doesn’t even crochet anymore and hasn’t bought a skein of ANY yarn in decades and has no clue as to high quality, natural hair yarn products, well, I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor.
Amy (Waunaknit) says
Congrats on the weight loss! It’s difficult to lose 3 lbs so enjoy your victory. Kudos on having the willpower to close the window. I, as you know, did not do as good.
Frankie says
Way to go Judy! I’m proud of you for sticking to your resolve about the yarn diet. And great job on the weight loss too. All in all, a great day I think.
Sharon in Michigan says
I have drank 5-6 cans of coke every day for the past 50 years. I went to the Dr. on July 25, 2013 as I wasn’t feeling well. He scolded me, once again, for my pop habit. I walked out his door and haven’t had one pop of any kind since that day. If I can do it, so can you! Honestly, sometimes I crave one so bad 🙁
carole says
$192 for a sweater?!?!?!?!?!?!? OMG !!!!!!!!
Jean says
Good girl, Judy! So proud of you – not only for the weight loss but your restraint in not buying any more yarn this week! You are my hero! But can you now tell me what happened to the chickens a few weeks ago – I know something terrible must have happened to upset you so much. Just wondering…
Gale says
I’m so proud of you, Judy! You can do it and I can do it. I’ve also lost 5 lbs already! And I’ve not bought any fabric even when it jumped into my cart. And I’m keeping up my basic flylady routines, so far. We can do this!!
Katie Z. says
Way to go!
Jo says
Way to go, Judy!! Learning to say “no,” whether to snacks, fabric or well-meaning but time-consuming group projects has been the hardest thing for me to do. Will take a page out of your book, tap my ruby red slippers together and repeat: “NO place like no, NO place like no….” Thanks for sharing!
Melody says
That is awesome!!! Way to go!!!!
Linda says
Yeah, Judy! On both counts. I’m paying more attention to my diet. My metabolic issues are awful. Even with all my walking, I’ve gained about 5 pounds since September! So, I need to add more veggies and water to my diet and see if that helps. I’m doing my best to buy nothing that isn’t necessary to sustain my life for the next several weeks. I end up spending too much money and the stuff just goes into my pile of unused but wanted things. No more! Well, for now, anyway! ;D
Betty says
I loaded up a shopping cart on a favorite fabric website recently. They really had some great bargains. But then I walked into my sewing room and asked myself where I would put it if I got it. I deleted my cart also. It felt good!
Lynne McClure says
Judy, I’m gonna follow your lead and try to get down to only 4 DP’s a day. Told hubby this is THE year I get off all soda! (He is my enabler – always making sure that I have mucho-plenty 12 packs)
Mary in VA says
That’s a big victory! Way to go Judy!
Norma v says
Self gratification feels good in the immediate sense of time but self control grows and lasts longer even if it takes lots of practice…the urge to buy is so strong and then the bottom line is the bottom line…so I have just been deleting the basket too and go shopping in my own stash…amazing what I forgot I have in there….kits, fat quarter bundles and fabric that is now vintage…
Helen Koenig1 says
Judy – I’m so proud of you! Not easy to make a decision like that on a strong habit! Way to go!!!!
Beth in AZ says
Those are NOT small victories! Even a long journey starts with 1st steps. You watch…you are going to pick up speed! WTG! I am proud of you!!
Marcille says
I’m really happy for you! I know how hard losing weight can be, and even harder may be resisting fabric/yarn purchases. I am working on depleting my fabric stash this year.
Mel Meister says
The first 7 to 10 pounds for a woman is water weight. It comes off fairly easily and also comes back fairly easily. Last year, One of my doctors cut my fluids back to 32 ounces per day due to venous issues. I lost 15 pounds in that month… all fluid. It came back when I started drinking more water again. (I don’t drink soda).
