If you’re a knitter, do you LOVE Ravelry? I so wish there was something like that for quilters. There are several smaller setups but every time I use Ravelry, I’m just amazed at everything available there.
I have been working to clean up my Ravelry files. Through the years, I’ve put things in my favorites list that I know now I will never make, so I deleted some of those. I have my queue pretty much the way I want it.
There are so many groups and I’m only in a few and most of the groups I’m in, I’m not very active. I’m in Loopy Groupies, ESK, Madelinetosh, Laura Aylor’s workshop, Miss Babs has a couple of groups.
Which groups are you in that you love?

Love Ravelry too. That’s where I got patterns for the baby sweater and hats I did for Christmas. It would be great if we had something like that for quilting. It’s wonderful to have them all in one place!
We have snow, sleet , ice and rain in Richmond, VA today so I’m not venturing out. Have been working on finishing the baby sweater and it’s mostly done. I’m housesitting and of course didn’t bring the other skein of yarn so may have to wait on some of it at least until the weather improves. I was supposed to usher for a Christmas performance this afternoon but opted out due to the icy road conditions. It’s a good day to stay in!!

Yes, I love Ravelry, too. I’m in quite a few groups but I don’t frequent them as often as I used too. I will check you out!

I’ve been a member for years but didn’t do too much with it except search for patterns or yarn. The site has evolved so much that it’s a never-ending joy to get in there these days – you can spend all day exploring and being amazed. I’ve used it steadily for the past two years or so – patterns mostly. I only belong to one group (Hats for Sailors) (we knit hats for the US Navy) but it’s a pretty active group with some really smart members (not me!) and it’s a lot of fun. Ravelry is world-wide and you can look at the home page and see how many are on the site. Very informative and creative – and a lot of fun. Probably too much when I should be quitting!
Marion Morgan says
How do you find out about it?
LINDA says
I too am a Ravelry fan. Thank you for heading me there. Didn’t know of any “Groups”?
Just got back into knitting this year, and don’t know why I was away so long. Other passion is quilting.

I too, love Ravelry, but other than checking out patterns, I don’t spend much time on it.

Ha ha… I was on Ravelry this morning and not even 2 hours ago told my sister the same thing. I wish there were a website for quilters that had a stash storage option like they have. I’m not a knitter but I like to look and pick out things for my sister to make me! I do have/tried a couple apps for a quilt stash. The one that had the most promise is charging for her updated version and I feel I already paid for it once I should get it free. Only a few dollars but still. Most of them seem so cumbersome with not a lot of options like Ravelry. So who can we get to do it?
Howdy says
I love Ravelry too… it’s fun to look through the patterns available – there are plenty that are free and those that do cost don’t seem to be outrageously priced. I’ve been trying to get my stash all documented with pictures and details so that when I find a pattern I like I can see if I have the yarn to make it. Or I can select a yarn I have on hand and then with the search and filter tools I can find patterns to go with a particular weight and yardage available. I only joined one group – the JKnit App User Group… but I haven’t really figured out the app enough to use it effectively.

I’m just getting started with Ravelry (and knitting again). I’m in Baah!, Nine Rubies (my LYS), and Knit Swirl groups so far. I just added you as a friend. I love Ravelry and wish we had something similar for quilting.

Give me a clue what else I could do here. If you or Denise mention a pattern, I look it up on Rav (I am actually a member). I occasionally look there at yarns to what’s been used for a given project. I usually save patterns I like on my computer so I imagine I could be doing all that on Rav so I know I’m under utilizing it, but I don’t grasp the potential yet. It’s certainly the mecca that all knitters understand so a like thing in quilting could be cool.

Most of my groups are quilting – Machine Quilting Professionals and Machine Quilters Resource, and the Intelliquiter group. I do use and love Ravelry. It is the best thing for knitting and crochet. I too wish there was an equivalent for quilters.
Teresa in Music City says
I found Ravelry thanks to you and love it! I haven’t joined any groups, but looking through their patterns is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with a few cookies and a nice pot of tea 🙂 And I love thinking about what I want to make next – so many choices!

Ravelry is great, I think. I use it to keep track of my projects and as a pattern source, but it has lots of other helpful features. I’m in several groups, too, but don’t participate very actively.

I LOVE Ravelry!! I’m in a ton of groups, mostly indie dyers that I discover here and there. I’m most active in Loopy Groupies, Unicorns Unlimited & Odd Ducks Swap Group. I’m on Ravelry every day and find all of my knitting patterns there. My stash is organized digitally on the site as well as my projects. I don’t know what I’d do without Rav!!
Kristin says
I’m most active in groups that are local. My knitting Guild has a group, and LYS has one and a few local designers.
Cindy F says
I joined Ravelry because of you, but like some of the others, have yet to learn all the features. Right now I go there to look at patterns you or others mention and have purchased a few too. It’s a great site!

Love Ravelry, Knit Picks, the message board “Knitting Paradise”. As for quilting, when I was a new quilter back in 2001, the quilting forum on About.com helped me learn a lot. As for a place where people share/contribute quilt patterns, I think there has been so many ‘sue happy’ “designers” that people are cautious when it comes to sharing something they may feel is their original – I know I am….

I love Ravelry! When I joined years ago, my knitting too off. So many patterns, so much help, so much knitting talk all in once place . . . heaven! It would be wonderful to have something like that for quilting, but then I’d really never get anything done. I spend too much time on Ravelry as it is. 😀

I love Ravelry and also wish there was something similar for quilting. Ravelry also gets me in trouble though because I keep seeing projects I want to make.
I follow Madelinetosh Lovers, Madelinetosh Shop Stalkers, Loopie Groupies, BabyCocktails, Fit to Flatter, and recently Cold Sheep and Friends, Stashdown, and Stash Knit Down.

I LOVE Ravelry, and have often wished that there was a similar site for quilting. The two Rav groups that I am most active in are Nerd Wars and Designs by Vera Sanon. I also like the Knitting Paradise site, but that’s another one that you could easily spend all day on.

I LOVE Ravelry! I usually jump in to anything sock related. I do like the Tour de Sock group.
Dar in MO says
Judy, you are responsible for introducing me to Ravelry and I love looking at all the patterns trying to decide which ones are easy for beginners. I have not joined any of the groups though.
