You know what they say about the weather . . if you don’t like it now, just wait a few minutes. That’s certainly true around here with the crazy swings in temperature. The forecast says our high Tuesday is going to be 79º and our low Friday night is going to be 21º with more ice in the forecast several days that week. The high for next Saturday is only going to be 35º . . if you believe a forecast a week in advance. We’ll just have to wait and see but we’ll be ready for whatever happens. The air conditioner will be running this week and by the weekend, we’ll have the fireplace going again.
Last week when we had the ice, the temps barely dropped below freezing and then it was mostly only at night. During the day, it would get warm enough that we didn’t need the heater on in the house. But, next week may be different so Vince is out chopping firewood. During the spring, when the fence builder was working, quite a few trees were pushed over so it’s good wood now for using in the fireplace.
I told Vince that I didn’t think that’s the way my grandpa split wood and he said . . I don’t think your grandma quilted on an APQS Millennium or washed her dishes in a dishwasher or read her mail on the computer . . so what’s your point?
Hmmm . . I guess I was just passing by and didn’t have any point at all! 🙂
I was kinda thinking that when he finishes splitting enough wood for the winter, he might want to pick up some of that mess but I didn’t think I should mention that!

Vince is a fast thinker. Don’t you just hate that? I don’t think I could go back to the “pioneer” days. I am too lazy, lol.

We rented a log splitter and it works great. We love wood and how it looks when it is piled up. I was in TX last week and it was so so cold.

Very funny Vince.

yep, looks like the old days when firewood warmed you twice–once when it was cut, and once when it was burned– are long gone. Before we know it someone out there will automate the whole process, and the trees will be cut, split, and the wood stacked into cords with the push of a few buttons!

HA!!! As much as I hate to admit it (because we womenfolk need to stick together), I had to laugh at Vince’s comeback to you.

I smiled when I saw the picture, because of course, I was picturing him out there with an axe! That’s the way I used to do it, when I had a fireplace, but no one in their right mind would do that now. LOL You could turn that sawdust into emergency candles if you had cat food cans and some beeswax and some wicks or tightly wound string. =)

Oh that looks like the one we bought and regretted it .. It now leaks hydrolic fluid from the rear seal. So now the hubs is back to going to the saw mill where they sell split cut wood. All he has to do is stack it !LOL

An electric splitter? We NEED one of those! I said I wanted an electric snow blower for Christmas! We will be shoveling a lot by tomorrow morning!
