Gourmet Dinner from Bertolli

As long as I can remember, dinners have been family time.  As a kid growing up, with my parents and my sister, dinner was always a time when we sat down and ate together…with the TV off!  When our son, Chad, was a teen, we had a few battles about the cell phone at dinner time. Not only did I expect no texting or talking on the phone but I wanted the phone somewhere that it could not even be heard.  Nothing worse than sitting down for a meal, the sound of an incoming text being heard and suddenly, he wasn’t hungry! With Vince being Sicilian, he has great memories of family dinners with brothers and sisters and their families all around the table. For me, dinner is the end of the world’s hold on our day and from dinner til bed time, we’re a family and the outside world is…outside! I believe my feelings about excluding the world from our dinner is one of the reasons I prefer to eat at home instead of eating out, but sometimes, after a hard day of working around the house, getting a gourmet dinner on the table for dinner just doesn’t work. Those are the nights when Bertolli’s new restaurant style single-serve frozen dinners make me happy!  Great Italian dinners that can be heated in the microwave or baked in the oven.  Add a salad and bread, and a restaurant quality meal is served in minutes with no cleanup! The single serve “Rustico Bakes” are available in 6 recipes:

  • Ricotta Spinach Cannelloni
  • Stuffed Shells Alla Vodka
  • Creamy Spinach Rollatini

There are four varieties of the “Al Dente” single serve meals.

  • Chicken Florentine Alfredo
  • Tortellini Margherita
  • Asiago Ravioli Primavera
  • Chicken Chardonnay & Penne

We loved the “freedom” of the single serve frozen dinners because Vince likes red sauce and I like white sauce, so we were each able to choose which frozen dinner we wanted.

Vince assured me his dinner was great, and he would enjoy it again any time I wanted to serve it!  My Chicken Portabella Ravioli was better than many restaurant Italian dinners I’ve had.  The ravioli stuffing was quite tasty.  The cheese sauce was cheesy and creamy and had lots of mushrooms. Salad, crusty bread, wine and our Bertolli dinners…perfect after a busy day!   1. My favorite is the chicken parmigiana and penne. Last year our nearby Macaroni Grill closed and that was my favorie dish there so I was very happy to find a really good substitute. And we don’t have to go out!

  2. I haven’t tried these yet but I plan to do so. I just joined Weight Watchers Online, though, so I will have to see if they fit in my plan. I have a feeling that they won’t. BUT, I am looking for simple ‘no thinking’ meals to get me through the first stages of weight loss so I may give these a try and splurge on my weekly extra points to have these once in awhile.

  3. I really like the Asiago ravioli primivera. The convenience is so great. Leaves more time for sewing!

  4. I like the chicken portabella ravioli, too! I’m not sure which would be my favorite, though – either the chicken portabella ravioli or the stuffed shells a la vodka. Both are excellent!

  5. The only one I’ve tried so far is the Chicken Florentine Alfredo and it was quite tasty. I don’t eat a lot of pasta but this one I would have again and with a salad on the side dinner was only about 11 WW pts.

  6. I’ve never had a Bertolli meal, but I would like to try Chicken Parmigiana & Penne. Vince can’t be wrong! It must be good!

  7. I buy Bertolli Classic meals for Two all the time. I usually add additional vegetables. Can’t pick a particular favorite. They are all good and quick to fix.

  8. Stuffed shells alla vodka! I love tomato sauces and don’t eat much meat, so it’s perfect for me.

  9. We also enjoy an occasional Bertolli meal. I usually try to make them when we have left over chicken so I can add some to the meal.

  10. Oh my! I didn’t know they made these, so I guess I don’t have a favorite but the names ALL sound worthy of trying. I’ll be stopping at a store today, so will see if they carry them.

  11. I think my favorite is Stuffed Shells Alla Vodka. I had to try them just because of the name and I just fell in love with it. Bertolli is a wonderful meal when I am just to tired to cook.

  12. I’ve never tried the single serve Bertolli meals, but we really like the meals for 2. I often add more vegetables and make them serve 3. I’m particularly fond of the Italian sausage pasta meal, so I will look for it in the single serve.

  14. oh we had these the other night for dinner – the stuffed shells ala vodka – very tasty – and I purchased a larger package of the manicotti – everyone loved them too – I heart Bertollis!

  16. Love love love the Chicken Parmigiana & Penne! Louis is of Sicilian descent also, and he always talks about his family dinners as being his favorite memories.

  17. I haven’t tried these yet, just clipped a coupon for them on Sunday. I’d definitely go for the Ricotta Spinach Cannelloni or the Asiago Ravioli Primavera, but I’m pretty sure I’d be happy eating any of them!

  18. My favorite is the Bertolli Chicken Margherita (great grilled chicken and tomato/basil sauce with penne and mozzarella. YUM!

We keep these in the freezer for when we just don’t have time…..and when we use our DVC member trips and stay in villas, we get these because there are no leftovers and the do taste pretty good (just had 3 of them in Oahu in October!). My favorite may not necessarily be my husbands but I like (well, I like everyone we have tried)….but the one I keep getting is the chicken marsala with roasted potatoes (cause I like potatoes!)

  20. I haven’t tried these new single serve meals but we love several other Bertolli products, spaghetti sauce and lasagna rolls. We will be trying the new meals soon. Debbie in WV

  23. The Chicken Portabella Ravioli is delicious! Somedays dinner just needs to be easy and these are perfect.

  25. I love most anything Italian (thanks to my Italian grandparents), so I would have a hard time picking a favorite. I love that they make the one serving size since me husband won’t touch anything Italian…except me!

  26. I’m not sure if my favorite is still available- it was a lasagna roll up that you baked, it served 2 . The only other one I have tried is the chicken florentine bow tie pasta.

  28. The chicken florentine Alfredo sounds so yummy! All of them do. Italian is one of the few things my family can agree on. Can’t wait to try more of these.

  33. I haven’t tried them yet but plan to try the chicken portabello ravioli. The others sounds good too.

  34. I haven’t tried any of Bertolli’s frozen meals because most frozen dinners contain a lot of salt, but I’ll look at them the next time I’m grocery shopping. They certainly would be convenient for those nights when I don’t feel like cooking!

  36. Well I don’t have a favorite i like love all the chicken ones. I can’t eat shrimp due to allergy. But I guess if I picked a must have it would be Chicken with the big mushrooms and white sauce. I love the single serving size too. I take t for lunch to school when I volunteer to do copies for teachers each Friday.And hubby and I like different ones sometimes too just like you’ll do.

  37. I think I would go for the stuffed shells – they are Mike’s favorite, but I rarely stop to take the time to make them.

  47. I would most like to try Bertolli® Chicken Alla Vodka & Farfalle, I have looked at these in the Grocer’s freezer and been tempted to try so I will really have to do so!

  103. I can’t believe I haven’t tried these yet. I love Bertolli products so the Chicken Portabella Ravioli is on my list to try along with the Lobster Ravioli.

  111. I don’t have a favorite actually, as I have never tried them. I hope that is OK! I would love to try the Stuffed Shells alla Vodka if it is actually vegetarian though! 😀
