Technically, this may not be my very first sweater but in reality, it probably is. Way back in the late 70’s or early 80’s . . you know . . way, way back in the beginning of time (it seems), I would start sweaters. I would knit up to where you had to decrease and then I was too scared to go farther so after a few years of having the yarn sit around, I would pay a lady to finish them for me. I never really made a sweater but I’m going to!
I signed up for the Alpaca with a Twist Knit Along. We’re making a version of Lovely in Lace using a Baby Twist, which is a DK weight yarn. I’m using Arctic Blue. The first instructions were sent out late Thursday night. I hadn’t planned on starting til I finished dad’s socks but I thought . . I’ll just do my swatch and then I’ll finish dad’s socks.
The yarn feels so good! I love working with it. So, I decided I would go ahead and get started. It’s a pattern that requires my undivided attention so I thought I would work on the sweater during the day and then switch to the socks at night when Vince is home, since I don’t have to pay such close attention to those.
Vince took off at noon yesterday so that, along with having a doctor’s appointment and a hair cut appointment in the morning, kinda ate into my knitting time but I did make just a little progress and then had a little time alone to get this far.
The problem is . . I’m not sure I like it. The cables aren’t nearly so pronounced with the DK yarn instead of the worsted weight that the pattern was originally written for. There have been modifications made for the DK weight. I’ve finished the first clue. The next one will be out Monday but . . I think I’m going to stick this project aside and see what others are doing with it.
This is exactly why I don’t do mystery quilts!

I’m not a knitter but I like it. It’s very delicate looking. I think if you keep going you have a very nice lacy sweater which will be a little dressier than a bulky sweater. Might be a good gift for Nicole ( or a blog reader who is not a knitter LOl). Love the color!

I might be more inclined to do a mystery quilt than something knitted. With either thing though I get all caught up in the social aspect so it takes me a while to admit it’s not right for me.

Don’t say that..lol. I ordered my yarn yesterday and it should be here today. I am so excited to get started even though I have never done cables before. I hope I can get past the first set of instructions. Off to buy needles because of course I don’t have this size in metal and that is what I want to use.
Hopefully you will keep going and end up liking it more than you think.

Pretty color!. Do you think the stitches will pop more when it’s blocked?

I bought worsted weight instead of dk. The one I got is so close to the same size as a dk that I compared it to and I love the color. This is what I got:

I don’t like mystery projects either (even though I love reading mysteries). Must be because I like to see a picture of what I’m doing instead of working bit by bit and not knowing where things are headed.
