After a hard day’s work in the garden, I treated myself to my favorite quick treat ..
It’s quick, there’s no mess except one glass and one spoon. The oven doesn’t have to be turned on and it’s instantly ready.
I love a root beer float made with ice cold A&W Root Beer and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream.
What’s your favorite quick treat?
Joan in NE says
Now you have gone and done it!!! Made me really craving a root beer float. SO just went and made me one and it was OH so good!!
JudyL says
I don’t have them nearly as often as I’d like but they are so darned good, huh?
Donna Keating says
My favorite treat that does not require any preparations on my part is Blue Bell’s Banana Split ice cream. I want some right now!
Brownies are my favorite ‘gotta cook something’ treat.
JudyL says
We have a container of Banana Split that I don’t think we’ve opened yet. Come over and we’ll share! 🙂
Carol Morgan says
I love A & W Root Beer and make root beer floats too. I have my A&W Mugs from 1966.
Toni in TN says
Just this min. finished up one of the small serving size containers of BB vanilla. With a float it would have to be Coke for me.
helen says
I love the same thing, only I use vanilla ice cream made with splenda. But..I recently had a tooth extraction and cannot use a straw–UGH!!
shirley bruner says
for me it’s vanilla ice cream with orange soda. but i like root beer floats, too.
Joan in NE says
Oh I haven’t done that in ages. Now will have to pick up a six pack of orange soda to make a float. I like that too.
carol says
love vanilla ice cream with orange soda. reminds me of a dreamsicle I loved as a child.
Ruth Anne Shorter says
Blue bell ice cream with coke. Shhhh I like chocolate ice cream with coke!
Gwen says
I’m part of the BB homemade vanilla with Coke fan club. When we went to A&W as I kid I had orange drink in my frosted mug. They had one the was a lot like orange juice.
Linda Steller says
Well, it probably sounds a little boring, but I love either tuna salad or some peanut butter on a piece of toasted sourdough pumpernickel bread. I allow myself two slices of that bread a week. Sourdough and the combination of the flours I use (almond, spelt, and rye) help to keep the glycemic load down.

That! THAT is my favorite treat! That root beer float made with Blue Bell Home Vanilla ice cream! There is no ice cream in the world that can hold a candle to that simple flavor. And I can’t get it in Ohio. Waaaaaaaaah!!! (On the other hand, I *can* get killer Ginger Beer – something I never saw in Texas or anywhere else I’ve lived …) I miss my BBHV!!!
Sherrill says
My son and I went to A&W to eat tonight. Their ice cream machine was broken..what’s up with that?!!! So we just had root beer with our meal. Pooh!
Linda says
I love floats but I can not keep ice cream of any kind in freezer. I can eat whole carton myself in just 2 days.
Cathy says
I have become addicted to Blue Bell’s Lemon Bliss Ice Cream. It’s one of their seasonal flavors but I stocked up. Tastes sooooo good!
Bev Austin says
I sometimes like a piece of cake, but don’t want to bake a big one. Have found recipes for cupcake in a mug, love the ones using 1 cake mix your flavor choice, and 1 angel food cake mix. I use a coffee filter for lining my mug, so it’s easier to clean. Bakes in just a minute, microwave. Just found a recipe today for a cornbread muffin in a mug and anxious to try it.
Angie says
We don’t have Blue Bell ice cream where I live in Calif. It sure sounds good! We had Root Beer floats the other day sitting out under the shade of the Maple trees. It was a hot day! We used Bryers Vanilla and the root beer was from our Soda-Stream machine! Yummy!
Pamj says
Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla and coca-cola !! Have loved those since I was a little girl. My Mammaw and Granddaddy served me that treat, at a very early age at their house in Kingsville, Tx.. And I can remember having a long tea spoon in it too!! Are you a member of Blue Bell’s Country Club ???
Carole says
A fave at our house has gotten to be a take off an appetizer we used to get at California Pizza KItchen when it was still here. (boo hoo) Our eating schedule is quite erratic due to my sleep (or lack of it) so this isn’t going to be the usual idea of a snack. A taco shell covered with various cheeses (mozarella, provolone and fontina is the best) then put a line of roasted veggies (tomatoes, eggplant, red pepper) down the center, add a little grated romano or parm. Cover for a couple minutes so that everything is melting and feeling the love. Then roll it up (the cheese makes a great glue), cut in half add a little marinara and some more grated cheese on top. To die for. (PS: I’d love the rootbeer float but can’t let the evil ice cream in the house…it loves me too well; otherwise known as the drug of choice. And as Rhoda Morgenstern once noted about a piece of chocolate…:”Why am I eating this? I should just apply it directly to my hips.”
Diana says
Equal parts of chocolate frosting from a can and peanut butter. Nuke it for 1-2 minutes stir it up and put it in the fridge; instant fudge once its set up ..
Susan says
I don’t think I have a special treat. I just like most anything made with sugar and if it’s dark chocolate, that’s even better.
pdudgeon says
my treat is different too. I’ve recently discovered microwave sweet potatoes at our local grocery store. So i microwave a sweet potato, split it open, and load it with butter, baccon bits, cinnamon, and maple syrup. sprinkle a few chopped walnuts on top, and sit down to a loaded baked sweet potato snack. yummy and healthy !
Carole says
If you’re spending extra money for special microwavable sweet potatoes, it’s not necessary. I nuke any sweet potato all the time. Just wash it and poke a hole in it. Takes less time than a regular potato but my microwave has a sensor so I don’t do it by time.
Marky says
My favorite guilt free snack (more often my lunch) is crunchy peanut butter on a crisp Braeburn apple (quartered)
Rebecca in SoCal says
Coffee ice cream is very good in a root beer float. I read that home-made (black?) walnut ice cream is also excellent, but that’s not quick.
With all this talk of Coke floats, I wonder if anybody uses Dr. Pepper? (Not being a DP drinker, I wouldn’t know.)
Another quick treat when I’m feeling indulgent is Nutella on anything! Banana is best, but if I don’t have one around, the spatula I use to get it from the jar works.
JudyL says
Except . . I don’t like coffee. I love Dr. Pepper and as far as I know, I’ve never had a Dr. Pepper float. May have to try that soon.
Mel Meister says
Change the ice cream to Blue Bunny and I’m right there with you! I also make Tomato Basil pepperoni balls that are pretty darn good, too.
