I have worn glasses for many years. I always get the scratch protection and in all the years of wearing glasses, I have never had a scratch on a lens. Once, I did put my glasses on the vanity, then turned on the curling iron, which was too close to the glasses. You can imagine my surprise when I picked them up to put them on and there was a big melted spot right in the middle of one lens . . yep, a hole! I called the optometrist’s office to see how long it would take to get new glasses. The nice lady looked at my records and said “Your scratch protection will cover the cost of new lenses so I’ll order them for you!” Scratch protection covered my negligence in putting the hot curling iron too close to my lenses?
A month or so ago, while cleaning my glasses, I thought .. that’s a scratch! It wasn’t in an area that bothered my vision so I didn’t worry about it. A few days later, I noticed another scratch and it did bother my vision so I went to the optometrist and they ordered new lenses for me. I could not imagine how I had scratched my glasses twice and had never scratched them before.
Last week, thankfully before my new lenses arrived, I was in the sewing room with Boots. Sometimes when I’m over there, I stretch out on the sofa, and stick my glasses on the end table. When I was playing with Boots, with my glasses on the table, he spotted them and grabbed them . . grabbed them by the lenses with those razor sharp teeth! Then I remembered . . he had done that before. That’s how my lenses are getting scratched.
Today I took the glasses and had the new lenses put in. I can see . . I am no longer peering through scratched lenses.
I’m so happy I figured it out before getting the new lenses and having him scratch those. I will not take my glasses off and leave them where he can get to them again. Not even for one second! Live and learn!

A hard glasses case will keep them safe, but you have to remember to put them in and close it. That would be my downfall.

I keep a hard case in the house but I so rarely take my glasses off in the sewing room that I don’t even keep a case over there. It’s only if I decide to take a nap there that I take them off and I’ve given up trying to take a nap with Boots around.

Please say that’s not a broken tablet screen you’re displaying those glasses on! Less vital than glasses, but very irritating!

Nope, not broken.

Hehehe. A lesson we cat lovers have all had to learn the hard way. Lucky you though, to have the insurance already in place. Took me two times to learn that trick.

Kitties are so darn cute but very mischievous when young. It took mine a little over a year to settle down somewhat. Now that he’s is eleven years old he is not very playful but he pulls little stunts occasionally. Like swatting scissors, pins, etc. onto to the floor and gaze down at them in wonder. What a Stinker.

Your comments about Boots remind me of our dog when he was a puppy. Most expensive dog we have ever had. Chewing devil. The first thing he got his teeth on was the tv clicker. I have to make sure there are no pins on my sewing room floor. Almost had my hand down his throat trying to retrieve a straight pin. I don’t know if the pin is in or out of the dog. Thank goodness he’s out grown the chewing stage. Boots will get better. Marsha

Yep, I’m very familiar with those type of mystery scratches on glasses. My dog grabbed mine and chewed on them when he was a pup. Luckily it wasn’t in a spot that was necessary for vision so I didn’t replace them until this past January (almost 3 years later). That’s only because I had to finally get bifocals .. ahh, middle age, gotta love it. 😉
Glad that your scratch protection covered Boots’ playfulness.

Your comments about boots remind me daily why I will never have a cat.

Well, I hope that’s another thing he’ll grow out of. Those little kitties sure can get into trouble!
