More border blocks today . .
You will need 52 of these blocks. They’re 3″ finished or 3-1/2″ unfinished.
Step 1:
- Fabric 4 – Cut 4 – 1-1/2″ strips
- Fabric 1 – Cut 8 – 1-1/2″ strips
Sew these into 4 strip sets as shown below. Use the remainder of the strip set from Step 2 of Instructions #13. Cut them into 52 – 3-1/2″ segments/blocks as shown above. If for some reason, you do not have enough fabric remaining from the previous lesson’s strips, you will need to make an additional strip set.
Step 2: (Before cutting, look around for scraps of Fabric 4 that might work. It’s ok to “disassemble” some of the strip sets you’ve made in these last two steps if there’s a 3-1/2″ pieces of Fabric 4 that you can use.)
Fabric 4 – Cut 1 – 1-1/2″ strip. Cut it into 4 – 1-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ rectangles. Using the 8 leftover pieces from Step 2 of Instructions #13, create the following corner blocks. Make 4.
Step 3:
Assemble the blocks to create the borders. For the left and right side border,
Sew together 13 of the rail blocks and 12 of the nine patch borders to create the borders as shown below. Start and end with the rail blocks. Make 4.
Step 4. Sew a modified nine patch block, from step 2 above, to each end of TWO of the strips.
