Thanks for all your comments. The Flipflop Moscata was delicious. Hardly even tasted like wine . . which proves I’m a terrible judge of wine.
I hate to admit this but Vince worked for a wine company for 10 years before going to 3M. Their corporate offices were in Canandaigua, NY. They also owned the Inn on the Lake in Canandaigua. Multiple times a year, there were meetings in the Finger Lakes region and we would spend days at the Inn on the Lake. I would go when I could, which wasn’t often because Chad was at home. The wine flowed freely and I would always ask for a Dr. Pepper. Often we would go on wine tours . . and that is where I saw my first (and probably last) chipmunk.
Not being a wine drinker, I loved the little crackers way more than I loved the wine but the first time we went, I started out drinking the little sip of all the wines they gave me and after about the fourth stop, I said . . if you don’t mind, I believe I’ll just go back to the van and sleep! That stuff catches up with you quickly when you’re not a drinker.
So, I’ve been given every opportunity to become a wine connoisseur and have no interest. It doesn’t matter to me what wine goes with which foods. The three bottles of wine I bought this evening will probably last me several years.

I like the way you choose wine. I do it that way too. Do you have one of those bottle seal things from Food Saver to reseal your bottle?

That’s my home stomping grounds. 🙂 I grew up about an hour south of Ithaca, NY — loved the Finger Lakes. LOVE Lake Seneca and the wine tours.
Bully Hill has a great ‘sweet’ wine! One that their person called the ‘date wine’ because it was strong, and sweet — hardly taste the alcohol … so, there was generally more ‘action’ after having consumed it. 🙂 [Ravat 51]
They have terrific labels, too!

Wait! There are no chipmunks in Missouri or Louisiana or Texas? I thought there were chipmunks EVERYWHERE (except Antarctica)! Judy, you are a constant source of new and amazing information! P.S. Love the idea of buying wine based on the label. Have you seen Middle Sister Red Wine? Best label ever!

I’ve stayed at the Inn on the Lake but a lot of years ago. It’s a beautiful spot.

I’m the same way! once we were visiting relatives in CA. They very nicely took us on a Sonoma wine tour. $15 for a glass and you got to keep the glass! There were different foods, and crackers at every stop to “cleanse the palate” I prefered the foods to the Wines!

I saw in your previous post that you like sweet wines. Have you tried mead (honey wines?) I always pick up a few bottles at the Meadery of the Rockies when we are near Palisades (western slope of Colorado). It’s a nice desert wine or great to sip on a warn afternoon.

Judy, we have a glass of wine every evening with dinner. We visit the Napa and Sonoma Valley’s as often as we can. My father was very interested in wine making – to the point of almost buying a winery and going into the business. It was a dream he always wanted to fulfill. He took classes, belonged to wine tasting groups. My DH and I appreciate good wine. At home we buy on sale – usually a middle of the road priced wine. Our youngest son loves good wines. The only time we spend $ on good wine is for the holidays and again only buy when on sale. I often find a $70-80 bottle of wine for $35-40. They are savored. We prefer dry reds. We are in Lake Tahoe now on vacation and went out to the Zephyr Cove Lodge with friends last night for dinner. Our host ordered a bottle of Ravenswood Zinfandel and it was delicious with our meal. Ravenswood is a winery we have often visited with my parents. Wonderful memories! I cook a lot with wine also, both reds and whites. Cheers!

I totally agree with you concerning wine. I much prefer Dr. Pepper too! Once in a great while, DH will buy a bottle of Lambrusco (Kool Ade wine) and the only way I’ll drink it is over crushed ice, which makes any wine drinker cringe. Nope, no winos here!

I also love Dr. Pepper. My dad used to sell it and when I had my tonsils out I got my very own case of it. If not for the sore throat I would have wanted them out every week. As for wine, any time we had it we always had Mogan David, so that’s the only kind I really know about, sewwt and grapy tasting. I do love the labels though, but seldom buy any, except for my big bottle of burgandy, which has been on my shelf for several years. Nothing with a cork, because I always seem to push the cork down into the bottle and I don’t think that’s good for the wine. All in all, I’ll take a Dr. Pepper though.

I missed this one earlier! WE had friends who moved from VA to Corning, NY. Yes, he worked for Corning. We drove up to visit them and of course while their daughters were in school we took a wine tour. the girls came home from school and saw us adults very relaxed in the living room. They knew immediately where we were that day. My Dad used to make his own wine and most of it was pretty good too. A lot of evenings we have a glass with dinner, after all a little is good for you or so they say!

Wow, Judy! What year would that have been? Probably several years after I was there. I went to college in Geneva, NY, just to the east of Canandaigua on Routes 5 and 20. While I was working at Lincoln First Bank after graduation, I took some accounting classes at Canandaigua Community College! I was the same way when I did the winery tour with some friends before I moved out here. I’m still not a big wine drinker. I love the stuff, but one glass will do me in.

I’m not a drinker either. Don’t have anything against it, just never did drink. Once a year, I have a Mike’s Hard Lemonade after a ranch rodeo that a friend hands me and if we open a bottle of wine, I drink about 6 sips. Then. like you, I want to go to sleep. DH told me I was a cheap date when we first started going out. LOL Good thing I didn’t take that the wrong way, and really good thing he didn’t mean it the wrong way!! There is a chocolate wine that you might like: ChocoVine. It sound awful, but it doesn’t taste like wine at all. It is good with something like the Sopapilla Cheesecake I make.
