Hmm . . at some point today we were choosing quilt colors and now we’re choosing wine. It’s been a great day! 🙂
Vince had a doctor’s appointment in Abilene today and on the way home, we stopped at HEB (which is a fantastic grocery store for you non-Texas folks). If I could bring one business to our town, I would bring an HEB. I love that store!
I have never been much of a wine drinker .. not really any alcoholic drinks too much. I figure if I could find a wine that tastes like Dr. Pepper, I would probably like it.
Vince was looking at something and I was choosing myself some wine. Vince looked at my choices and said “You cannot choose wine based on the label!” Really? On what should I base my decision? Color of the bottle? I know nothing about wine but I think I made some excellent choices.
It’s summertime and I love my flipflops so wouldn’t it stand to reason that I would love flipflop wine?
Flipflop moscato wine and sushi for dinner at our house!
And, I’ve just finished two Road to Llano quilt tops so . .
I should buy two bottles of Llano wine, right? I think I made excellent wine choices, don’t you? 🙂
Joan in NE says
Its a perfect way to choose!!!! I’m not a wine drinker either
so think its a great way to figure out what to get –giggle!
Pat McG says
Muscato and gerwurts are my favorites, too. But when it tastes so good it goes down too fast.
shirley bruner says
Hahahahahahahaha i don’t drink wine at all…..so i think your choices are perfect. that is probably what i would have done, too.
Donna says
I like the Llano bottles. Have you ever heard of puttimg water in blue bottles and letting it sit in the sun. The blue is supposed to do something to purify the water. I have a cousin who swears by it. Me not so much.
Judy H says
I like your choices, but I wouldn’t pair a moscato with sushi. I prefer a dry white with sushi. Something like a Pinot Grigio. Moscato would be too sweet for me to enjoy with sushi. But you should have what you like!
Enjoy your wine!
JudyL says
No dry wine for me. Don’t like that stuff at all! The sweeter it is, the more likely I’ll be to drink it.
lynne quinsland says
i was thinking the same thing judy H. moscato and the G (coz i KNOW i will massacre the spelling) are both sweet wines, more for dessert……but, saying that, they are BOTH my favorites, and i would pair NOTHING with sushi, since sushi would never be on my plate LOL
PamO says
Now with 2 blue bottles, you are on your way to yard art with a blue bottle tree.
Your way of selecting wine is as good as any. Enjoy!
Dottie N. says
They look like excellent choices to me!! The Llano wines are pretty good (or at least the ones I’ve tasted). Had to try their wines since I’m from the Texas Panhandle and the winery is in Lubbock!!
Lee says
I’m no wine connoisseur either, having last tasted the stuff over 20 years ago. I do occasionally cook with it but suspect what I have may be vinegar by now, that’s probably not a bad thing either. Back when I did occasionally have a glass, the state of Oregon was just beginning it’s wine growing and producing some stuff that was rivaling the Napa Valley and even some French vineyards. How can you lose with flipflops and Llano, lol?
Linda says
Moscato is the only wine I like also. It has to be really sweet! Most wines give me very bad headaches but not moscato. On te other hand, margaritas go with everything in my book. Nothing fancy, just the Costco mix and then add my own orange liquor and tequila. I love the Llano labels!
Diana in RR, TX says
Love the way you chose your wine! HEB does usually have a good selection, but Randalls tends to have better sales! they used to be the other wholly owned TX store until selling out to Safeway. I have 5 HEB stores in a 15 mile radius-you might become a shopper! they are way to handy to me!
Becky in VA says
Great way of making wine selections!
new topic:
Did you ever catch anything in the trap?
Vicky says
Tell Vince that’s how I choose my wines, too! Harrumph, what does he know?!! 🙂
AngieG9 says
I don’t know much about wine either, but I think you made good choices. I usually get the cheapest, since I don’t know the difference anyway. I do have a bottle of burgandy in my cabinet that I opened so many years ago it’s probably red wine vinegar by now. I should check that out. I have a recipe that calls for red wine vinegar. I do remember not liking whatever I made with the burgandy.

My daughter had Flip Flop for her wedding! Everyone loved it. Glad to see other people don’t judge wine by its price.
Dar in MO says
Both wines look like winners to me too. I tend to like the sweet and fruity wines, when I have a glass. As someone else said, the names on those 2 were perfect choices. How was the flip flop one?
Howdy says
I was listening to a wine expert giving his opinion on what wines go with what food… and then he summed it up by saying “bottom line… drink the wine you like and don’t worry so much about what it goes with.”
I consider myself a peasant… I don’t like dry wines – love the sweet wines. We enjoy going to vineyards and sampling wines before we buy… but I wouldn’t want to suggest you start “vineyard hopping”… Vince would be mad at me if you developed a new bad habit! He would have to dig out a wine cellar for your collection… LOL
Pat says
Thanks to my stepbrother I have found I like chocolate wine. It takes me 4 or 5 months to get through a bottle ’cause I only sip on a little glass once a week or so. This is red wine with chocolate in it which sounds very odd but is truly wonderful.
Judy H says
I love that! One bottle doesn’t last two days in my house, tho! LOL
Toni in Tn says
Guess I’m a peasant also!! Give me the sweet stuff. At least it covers up the taste of the alcohol.
Sherrill says
Moscato’s really the only wine I’ll drink..the others are too yucky tasty! LOL
Gwen says
Glad to know the ladies in my family and I are not the only Moscato fans. In addition to FlipFlop I like Barefoot! Both fit us perfectly! The blue bottles are lovely and that wine is too! I would love to have a bottle tree. I think I have seen a site to purchase a metal frame for them.
Lynne in Hawaii says
I’d give you two thumbs up! Since I don’t drink or have a clue about wine, looks like your choices were thougthful and intelligent!
Mel Meister says
I think you did just fine! I love the flipflop wine!
Evelyn Starfishy says
Wine does add a lot of flavor for cooking and if you are using it for cooking, you can buy very inexpensive wine! I use white wine for stuffed artichockes, as part of clam pasta sauce or chicken saute pasta sauce and a red wine for a winter beef stew! Cooking with wine is also a good way to use up a bottle that has been opened and you know you aren’t going to drink it! Cheers! Evelyn
Debi McIntosh says
haha Judy – I am always drawn to labels – quirky or meaningful!!
Elaine says
I pick wines by the color of the bottle too, that how I picked Verdi, a sort of bubbly white wine, for its teal color glass, sort of like an old glass coke bottle. I love the dark blue bottles you picked! and I also like Barefoot Moscato. My husband says its like drinking soda pop, LOL
You should try Schmirnoff Ice beer, its like drinking Fresca soda.
Becky says
I love the way you choose wine, I would have done the exact same thing and I don’t drink the stuff.
Susan says
I don’t drink wine, and know nothing about it, so this seems as good a way to choose as anything!
Anita says
Color of bottle and catchy label….I don’t know of a better way to pick a wine. Like most of the respondents I do like Moscato having discovered it when I was in Germany. Sam’s Club sells a lovely blue bottle, and also a rose colored bottle of Moscato blush, I haven’t tried it yet…
