Last night I finished the blocks for the Road to Llano quilt for my friend. First, I’m going to again show you the first one, the one with the green.
For the most part, I don’t enjoy making the same top twice but for two reasons, I did make this top twice. First, my friend is going through some serious medical issues and I wanted to make a beautiful quilt for her. To me, this is one of the most beautiful quilts I’ve designed. Second, I wanted to share the pattern with the blog readers and felt I needed to write the instructions and then test them before sharing them.
My friend loves purple so I knew purple would be used in the same places as it was used in the green top shown above, though it’s different fabrics in the second quilt.
I struggled with the color choices. Pink, Gold, Tan, Brown . . what color should I use in place of the green? Then I struggled with background choices. White, Tan, Ecru, Pale Yellow? I think I struggled so much with the colors because I didn’t think I could make a quilt using different colors and have it end up as pretty as the green one.
The final decision – Yellow/Gold in place of the green and lavender for the background. Maybe I’m just a bit in love with this whole quilt design and would love it in any color combination but I think these fabrics are equally as pretty as the green one, and maybe I like it even more!
I can hardly wait to finish this top and send it to my friend. I love it!

Both are beautiful quilts. I couldn’t pick one over the other.

The sign of a great design — it looks fantastic in both color combinations.

I’d happily give a home to either colour, even though it would mean redecorating the bedroom!

Both of those tops are absolutely gorgeous!
I found your blog through Carrie’s UFO challenge, and you have been a weekly reader for me – I really enjoy reading here!

I think it could be pretty in any colors, but since I really LOVE green, that one is my favorite of these two.

They are both beautiful, but I have to say I am a green lover, so my choice will be green when making it. I also love purple, so the one with green covers it all. I’ve made so many over the years with gold that it just doesn’t do much for me any more, but if possible I would use green every day and night of the week. Then they would stop calling me “The Hat Lady” and call me “The Green Lady” or maybe “The Green Hat Lady”. Who knows?

I agree with you, I think I like the yellow just a little bit more than the green, which I love…both are winners!

It’s very pretty, Judy. I didn’t manage to keep up with this one. Busy quilting, quilting, quilting, and my stitch regulator went out this morning (well, yesterday, really). Turned out to be a loose encoder wheel. I finally got it fixed!
