Vince loves to dig! He doesn’t mind tilling or digging a hole by shovel but what he really loves is trenching! Yesterday the rented trencher was delivered . . which is almost guaranteed to mean at least one water line will be cut.
Lucky for us, he didn’t cut a water line.
But, he stirred up lots of dust and he has trenched and trenched and he has that blasted thing rented for the entire weekend!
One thing for sure . . if anyone comes sneaking around here after dark, they’re probably going to think we’ve booby trapped the place with trenches. I went out after dark last night to turn off a sprinkler and realized I didn’t even know where all the trenches were and would probably break my neck so I went back in for a flashlight.
This is the trench for the lines going to the water storage tank. There are trenches for the irrigation lines for the orchard. There’s a trenched line for the wires going to the new hot tub. There are trenches for the new water lines for the new garden. Vince loves that trencher!
Look at that rich dirt! The farther we go outside the pipe fence, the more rock we encounter but the dirt within the pipe fence is good dirt . . real good dirt.
It’s always nice to have good dirt! 🙂

At least none of them look wide enough for graves. That’s a lot of trenches. Nothing cut at all? No gas lines, electric lines? He did a good job. And that is beautiful soil. I didn’t realize it was that rich in Texas. It looks like all you have to do is drop a seed and it will just really start growing.

Great looking dirt you have there, Judy. We have the more common red clay here in N. Central TX. Coming from CA where sticks would bloom when planted, we work hard to keep things going and growing here. You made a wise choice on the homesite. I see soil like that in Dallas and they are paving over it for fwys. and subdivisions. Masses of people have to live somewhere, but so much for America’s breadbasket. I want to scoop up that dark dirt for my planters. Our water/lake levels here are 38% and drying up so maybe the desert will take over again. The recent tornados were rough but they did bring some welcome rain in this part of the country.

Hot tub??? Ah, now there’s a remedy for a crick in the neck! I have a feeling you two will never move from that place. You are making it so special, it will be impossible to leave behind.
