Just suppose that I said I was never going to wear flip flops in the garden again. There are snakes and spiders and probably other things out there that I haven’t seen and don’t want to see. I think, if I were to tell the whole truth, I have said on numerous occasions that I’m not going to wear flip flops in the garden. I probably shouldn’t even own flip flops out here where there are so many snakes.
After I took my shower last night . .
Vince: Did you wash your feet?
Me: Well yes, I washed all of me!
Vince: Is that dirt on your feet?
Me: No!
Vince: Are you wearing flip flops in the garden?
Hmmmm . . maybe!
I have never ever . . not even in high school or college . . been one to lay out in the sun or try to get a tan. This is probably the most tan I’ve been ever . . and it’s only the first part of June and it’s totally from working outside in the yard.
See the red spot on my toe next to the big toe on my right foot? That’s from the black widow spider bite on July 1 last year. That bite still bothers me a lot. The red spot on the middle toe on the left foot . . ant bite. The fat feet . . that’s the Blue Bell! 🙂

What a tan! Maybe Vince should dispose of ALL your flip flops – for your own good.

OK, you have proved your way more of a woman than me. I would be in that garden with thigh high steel shoes on, clomping around like an idiot and still try to run like a little girl if I saw a snake! LOL!!

HUMMM…SEEMS I CAN’T SPELL EITHER. HOW ABOUT PROVEN! (POST ABOVE)

I don’t tan either….gave up on it decades ago….but still wish I could….terrible cycle of burn, blister, peel…… with such a nice tan on your feet maybe you should garden in the buff….(how far away are your closest neighbors….:-)

Vince would laugh at both of us. my tan stops at the ankle…..where the socks end. crocs and socks. hahahaha

You are brave! I am so scared to go out in our yard without the boots. I’ve killed two black widows so far and had Dan kill a third. I know there are snakes here due to seeing one on the road nearby. I also am terrified of being stung by a scorpion. So, it’s boots for me!
Angie says
Yep, those tan lines are a dead give a way that you are wearing flip-flops again in the garden, and the birds are building nests in the boots! :o)

I get that with my Teva Sandals. I love them and wear them ALL the time!
glen: the REAL one!

Too funny! My husband just noticed a sandal tan I got over the weekend from being in the sun all day. Even funnier is he has a tan too from sandals…he never tans but I sure do!
Rebecca says
That looks like my feet when I was young–I had a permanent tan line (on my feet). Not bites, though…I’ve heard about those fire ants! Owie!
Jane says
I wish the Blue Bell only went to my feet. Seems to stop at my hips, stomach & thighs.
Susan says
My understanding is that things like black widows and scorpions affect the nervous system, so it takes a long time to heal. I had multiple scorpion bites and would get numb from time to time for several years afterward. No more, though, so there’s hope! I would say good idea not to wear the flip flops in the garden!
Linda in NE says
Cute jammies! 🙂 We haven’t had enough sun to worry about tan lines of any kind. 🙁

I never had the patience to lay out in the sun to try to tan. I would go out with my cousins or my sisters, all oiled up and ready, but after 5 minutes I was so bored I would get up and go back inside, shower off, and get busy with something. Today I am very grateful for that, because at age 70 people think I’m 20 years younger, and my cousins who would tan until they were really dark look 20 years older than 70, so I think I lucked out by not being one of the “Sunshine Girls”. I also have never had the skin cancer they are all having problems with now either. Maybe just luck, but I’ll take all the luck I can get in that department.

Yup, much braver than I would be. I need long socks, total shoes, long pants.. bug spray and a big stick… then maybe I go in the garden!
JanetB says
I have flip flop tan lines, too. Maybe we should have a flip flop tan line linky party!
Linda says
No flip flops for me. I have weird curly toes and the thing that goes between the toes always gives me a blister. I wear wool sock and shoes, even in the summer time.
PamJ says
Go girl !! My feet have the exact same tan, but with freckles !! The fire ants love me, they bite and then I get these blister looking things, I pop and they come back..ugh.. MyDH is constantly telling me to put my awesome flowered rubber boots on, with the steel toes and arch supports ! Advice, yuck !! But honestly he’s right !! And my feet do feel better at the end of the day…As for the snakes, they terrify me too and I was raised in south Texas where they are so large that when they strike, they put dents in the pickup truck door… Be careful, carry a hoe….wack those suckers and run like **** : )

I”m with you, Judy. I wear flip flops in the garden because the needles from the cedar trees and other sticks seem to work their way through my socks and I wind up hopping on one foot while I shake out my garden boots and sock. So, I think there are good reasons to just wear sandals.
