Almost all my fabrics got changed out. I think my decision is made. Maybe. I’m going to start sewing today . . this morning!
Several times while I was working on writing the blog post, photographing the fabrics, pulling fabrics, Vince walked in and to him, it appeared I was sitting at the computer accomplishing nothing. Oh . . if only he knew the struggles that go on in order to make a perfect quilt! I asked him to come in and look at the choices. All he looked at were the choices on the blog post. He didn’t like any of them. Remember . . his favorite colors are light brown and dark brown. I showed him the EQ drawing.
Vince: Oh, I like that. Just use those same colors.
Me: That’s kinda what I’m trying to do. See Choice #6.
Vince: No! I mean . . use those exact same fabrics in the drawing!
Me: Want to drive 2 hours to a quilt shop and buy about 13 yards of fabric for about $150 or more?
Vince: NO! I think any of those choices look really nice!
That’s about what I thought.
Here are my fabrics:
I spent the entire day changing out fabrics and ended up pretty much exactly where I started. I still may change the white to ecru but the white makes the green quilt look so bright, that’s why I’m sticking with white for now. My friend, like most folks in Louisiana, is a big LSU fan so the gold and purple should be a good choice for her.
I changed out the dark purple for a not so dark purple Dimples. I changed out the lighter purple for a lavender Krystal. I changed out the accent for the gold Dimples. The white is the original white Dimples. The black is the original black Dimples. If I change back to ecru, that’s a Dimples also.
And, here’s my color chart.
I hope by the time you read this, I’ll have at least a little sewing done on this top. I’m so anxious to get started.

That’s pretty, Judy. I’m sure she will love it! I went yesterday and bought batiks: cream background, tannish gold, med. blue with light blue in it, lt. blue and black. I think it will be striking. Now to see if I keep this one or give it to my friend!?
Pics on my phone didn’t come out well but will take one with camera in a bit.
Thanks for sharing such a great pattern and getting me motivated!!

I am still playing with my fabrics to see what I can come up with for this quilt! My biggest problem is coming up with the 4 yards for medium/dark.

Diana,
Had lots in my stash but nothing appropriate or with enough yardage so off to the LQS I went yesterday!

Like your choices , never go wrong with purple , one of my favorite s I need to look at yardage and take a look at stash to see if possible,, I am still working on Sunny side up
I need to get into overdrive..as spinning my wheels ..

I like that, Judy. Purple’s always a great place to start. While I really like cream and tan backgrounds, you’re right that white just makes everything look so clean and crisp. I’m sure it will be a lovely quilt.

Oops – I forgot to say that I’m about to go upstairs and quilt, and will take my color chart with me and see what I come up with. I’m amazed that I’ve almost finished Sunny Side Up. You’re getting me back into piecing. I feel so productive!

Isn’t it strange how it takes longer to choose the fabrics than it takes to actually make the quilts? My granddaughter loves purple, my daughter is KY Wildcat blue, and I am Spring Green. Hummm, I wonder what I could do with those three together? Now I have some research to do.

I ALMOST joined in this quilt-along! I have a friend with cancer who is not doing well, and I have time to make her a quilt now. However, I’ll be traveling some in June, and your disclaimers had me wondering if I should try something simpler. So I went to your free patterns page and chose “Sing a Happy Song” (which will be “the Blues” for my friend). Thanks for providing both the impetus and the pattern!
