Whew . . this isn’t easy. What makes it so hard is that the one I’ve already made with the green . . those are the perfect color choices. I know there are other choices that will work but I keep looking at that top and comparing the others to it and they don’t measure up and I want the quilt for my friend to be the prettiest quilt she’s ever seen! Feel free to share your thoughts about these selections . . I’m not sure what I’ll do. Before you suggest it, I have no more of the light lavender fabric that I used in the first quilt or I probably would make an exact duplicate.
Choice #1 – The fabrics I pulled last night, thinking without a doubt . . they would be perfect. The tan is too blah . . just fades out the rest of the fabric.
Choice #2 – Changed out the tan for a gold. Better but not floating my boat yet.
Choice #3 – Change out the tan for pink. Maybe. I wish I had a pink that wasn’t quite so bright. I might . . have to look more. So far, these are all Michael Miller Krystal fabrics except the white is Andover Dimples.
Choice #4 – Changed out the two purples. They’re now batiks, while the black and pink are Krystal and the white is Dimples. I don’t normally mix batiks with plain cottons but everyone says it’s ok and I’m getting desperate.
Choice #5 – Changed out the white for an ecru batik. Changed out the black for a black batik. Only the pink isn’t batik.
Choice #6 – Changed out the pink for tan batik. Everything is batik. It probably looks more like the original drawing. I still like the fabrics in the one with the green better.
All I’ve managed to accomplish is that I have pulled half the fabrics from the closet to the sewing room and I have a huge mess! If I had to make a choice right this minute, I’d probably go with #5 but I’m going to ponder this a bit more.

Choice 5 is my favorite too. 4 is my second favorite. 🙂

Judy, do you have any orange or yellow to change out the tan if you go with the purples? How about a silver to replace the white if you go with the pink/purple? I’m one of those to think its fine mixing batiks with cottons, as long as its the right color combination. Sandi

Ditto what Crystal said!
Sue H says
#4 is my favorite, #5 is a close second. Don’t agonize at this point — whatever you choose will be perfect!
Sheri says
Five is my favorite. I think it will be stunning.
Judy D in WA says
5 is my favorite.—and I like 6 too. And 4 but mostly 5. 😉
JudyJ says
I agree with #5. I normally don’t do the fast quilt alongs because I work full-time, but I may try this one. I really appreciate all of the free patterns you have made available to us.
Carole says
I like #5 best, then #4

joining in with the masses and picking #5 too.
i was NOT going to do this quilt a long. i have TOO MANY things going already. too many things i tell you! why is it that i am pulling fabrics in my head now? visualizing so clearly what is in the stash and what i could use and where.
dag nab it! you KNOW i am going to be doing this quilt along right? i LOVE the pattern, i LOVE the way you present, and i LOVE the fast pace.
and, since i already have half the borders on one of my sunny side ups……yeah, i am justifying the new start LOL
Roberta says
I like 5 because it’s for a lady, if it was for a man then go with 6. Sometimes we just over think our fabric choices, think you quilt will be lovely with these fabrics and your friend will love it because you made it just for her!!!!!
Hugs!!!!
Julie says
I’m leaning toward #5 followed by #4. I’m off to the quilt shop!!!
Mary Jo says
I like #5 or #4.
Marla says
I too vote for #5. It will be stunning!
Gwen says
I’m part of the masses, #5 with #4 a very close second!
Donna says
I like 4 the best because I think white makes batik colors pop. Next choice would be 5.Also as another way to go, I think yellow would be just as pretty with the purples and white to substitute the pink. Whatever you choose will be pretty and your friend will be frateful because you made it with love and prayer!

Judy,
Love #5! I’m sure she will love it. I went out this morning looking but glad I didn’t make any decisions since I love the batiks!! I might have to finish cutting for Vermont this weekend so I can start on this!!
I think it might be the most beautiful quilt pattern I’ve ever seen and it would be a great top to take to Marie’s retreat in the Fall.
Teresa in Music City says
I would choose #5 too. The pink gives it a sparkle and the neutral is not too stark, so it will complement without taking over. I mix my fabrics all the time – the main thing I look for is the color and mood – if they match then I’m happy!
Beryl says
#4 and 5 look the same to me;, I like pink, especially for a cancer person. It will be lovely!
Kim Webb says
I really like # 5 also.
I really like the batik’s. The pink seems to add a bit of happiness and warmth to the collection.
I’m sure your friend will love it and I am looking forward to this quilt-a-long also.
Thank You for sharing your designs with your readers.

I would go back to #1 or #3 and change the tan for a nice green. Purple and green go great together!
AngieG9 says
I would personally go for #4 first and 5 second. Guess I’m thinking about my 17 year old granddaughter. Those are her colors. Won’t be able to do the qult along, but will be getting those colors and trying to remember the steps to make it later when I can get everything together. Love #4 best though.
Kathleen says
Hope 5 wins. I didn’t think I would like anything other than the original. You just have great color vision. I will say a prayer for her every time you post something about her quilt.
Freda Henderson says
You didn’t really ask but I would go with #5. Just my opinion and batiks and cottons work very well together. I do it all the time.
Lynn says
If you like the green better why dont you substitute the tan in No 6 with green. In 1 and 2 I personally think the background needs to be a little darker- more tan, and maybe adjust your 2nd tan to work better. . That is what makes the drawing you are using so nice. I am not a fan of pink with purple, unless it for a young girl. I dont really know why I am giving an opinion when I am struggling so much to find fabric that is just right for me.
You are such a good friend to make this quilt with love. for her.
cindy says
have you tried substituting either the light purple in #3 or #4 for the missing lavender in your original quilt to see if it would appeal to you rather than starting with a whole new color scheme?
Elaine says
I vote #5, then #3, have fun!
Dora Scheer says
I love, love #5.
Angie in SoCal says
I’m liking #5 best, and #6 is my least favorite.
Ann says
Number 4 is best!
Valorie Spanogle says
Even though the pink is not Batik in #5 I like it best.

Donna F says
If I had to choose it would be #4 or #5 and if I had to choose from those two I would choose #5. I wish I had your talent for putting fabrics together. If it’s alright can I email you for your opinions on my fabric choices sometimes?
Debi says
Judy I’d love to see No. 6 made up – I think it will be lovely.
Valerie Boudier says
Purely subjective, based on colours I like best – I’d go with 3 or 4
pdudgeon, says
I’ll be the odd ball and go with choice #3. your quilt design is and should be the star of the show, with the fabric colors in the quilt playing a supporting role. i feel that if you use choices 4 or 5 that the roles will be reversed, and that the fabrics themselves would take center stage being the first thing noticed about the quilt, and the beauty of the design be lost in the process.
Eileen Keane says
Judy, I think #5 is perfect! The pink is the Wow fabric, and it makes the rest of them just pop!
