This post is mostly directed to those of you who have sent quilts to me.
I talked to Hilary this morning and she told me that her guild has donated 50 quilts to West and with the quilts she already has there, and the quilts sent by other guilds, she thinks she has more than enough to get distributed to those who need them in West. Hilary suggested I send the ones I have here to Moore, OK.
The local radio station is collecting supplies. The radio station is owned by one of my neighbors (not that it matters but I kinda know them and I do trust them!) and there’s a big truck going from here on Tuesday to Moore and they would be happy to take the quilts and distribute them. A local oil company is working with them to do the distributing and at least one guy from the local state police went on the first trip. I’m confident the quilts would be given to those who need them!
I know there are many places in need right now but my options are only the places where I can get them — someone going there who can take them and then distribute them once they get there. I cannot make a trip to many of the places in need right now.
So the question is: Do those of you who sent quilts to me for West mind if they get sent via my local radio station to Moore, OK?

There is a quilt shop in Tulsa that is accepting quilts for the Moore storm, Ellen Medlock Studio Store, 10032 S. Sheridan, Suite H-1, Tulsa, OK 74133. Also, I read that a large number of Habitat for Humanity homes were destroyed last week in the Granbury storm. There is a wonderful quilt shop in Granbury that is probably doing something there. Sorry I don’t have the name at hand. Just another thought, there are more than enough disasters to give all the generous quilters an opportunity to help.

I have no problem at all with the location change. The point was to help and comfort someone who needs help and comfort. I think the people in Moore certainly qualify! I’d love to have our quilts right there on the spot immediately! I don’t think it matters who hands them out.

Judy, it is my desire to help anyone in need and with all the disasters here in Tx and our neighboring state of Ok I do not have a problem dividing up the donations for everyone that has a need. I am sure the thought of someone that really was not a part of the disaster receiving one of the quilts has crossed some people’s mind but if it happens, it happens. Just my thoughts!

World Care in Tucson, AZ is collecting items for Moore, OK. One of the needs is blankets/quilts/sleeping bags. Is there an area close to you that is collecting under the name of World Care? They would be thrilled to have the quilts. Just a thought….

Shawnee, OK is also a community in need. They were hit before Moore and are still in recovery.

What about Granbury and Cleburne?

As one living in Oklahoma I can say thank you Texas for caring. I am sending a quilt myself and I’m thankful that my area of NE Oklahoma was spared as was my family in Central Oklahoma who were very close to the one in Shawnee. The closest relation was my daughter in laws cousin who lost their home near Moore. This is where my quilt is headed. Shirley

No problem with sending the quilts to wherever they are needed. I have family in Oklahoma who are all fine. Also sending quilts to two shops in Oklahoma. Thank you for all the effort you are putting into getting the quilts to people who need them. H

i don’t mind as i had planned on sending the other two quilts that i had first offered to you for West Texas to Ellen Medlock’s Studio today for the OK tornado disaster relief.
i know that you’re busy, Judy and that you can’t be everywhere you would like to be. so maybe in the future the best plan would be to just send our donation quilts for disasters directly to organizations who are on the ground in those areas.

i would be happy if my quilts went to Moore, OK. my husband’s grandson lived 1 block from the school that was destroyed. they just moved into their house 2 days before and lost everything. so, i have a connection to Moore and would love to see my quilts go there. they were at work….so they are ok. and no children involved.

Due to the fact that I am not a machine quilter, my quilts generally are in a longarm-ers waiting line. Through Mennonite Disaster Service, I have begun to make wall quilt “house blessing” pieces (that I can finish) that go to each homeowner when our people complete the re-building of a home. MDS was particularly active with the Joplin effort and I have no doubt they will soon be calling for volunteers for OK. The need is great, not territorial!
Karen in CA says
No problem. Send mine where it is needed.

Absolutely fine by me.
Linda in NE says
If there are already enough quilts for West, then by all means send them to Moore….or wherever else they may be needed the most.

I have no problem with mine going to Oklahoma. Thank you so much for everything you have done.
