It’s hot! How many times will I say that over the next 5 or 6 months?
Yesterday evening Vince and I were out doing a few things in the yard and it was pretty miserable.
Vince: It’s already miserable.
Me: Summertime in Texas.
Vince: This is exactly why we should have a summer home in the north and a winter home in the south when we retire.
Me: Then you couldn’t have chickens or an orchard or a big garden!
Vince: But you could be comfortable and we could have lobster!
Did he say lobster? I’m guessing that rules out Colorado or Montana. I do believe he was thinking of one of those states where folks would laugh at my accent!
The only thing for certain is . . he doesn’t know what he wants. Last month he was all set to buy a place on the river a bit south of us. My guess is . . we’re never leaving this spot right here . . though we may end up melting into one big stinkin’ puddle at this rate.
I worked in the garden this morning from about 7 til 10:30. I wasn’t done with all I wanted to do but had to give up because it was so hot. I’ll keep reminding myself that we don’t have snow and ice during the winter . . so that should compensate for having 100+ degree days for five months. Yep . . that’s what I thought too. It’s not a fair trade-off.
Now I’m off to can the carrots that we dug a day or so ago.

You are a trooper handling the heat…I’m not so good with it :-/ I am new to following your blog and am enjoying the posts…and especially the Sunny Side Up Quilt Along. I also checked out some of your free patterns that you have posted. Thank you for those! Lots of inspiration!

Haven’t gabbed in some time! Love this post; we are being careful about scheduling outside work already. Went to Gsons ballgames Monday evening and thot we’d freeze. Thankfully had a jeans quilt in the SUV, big enough to wrap around with both of us inside! Yeah, Judy, that’s one BIG quilt! I think you both love the little nest you’re building in TX, even with a few drawbacks. Lobster???It’s mighty tempting! BTW, our previous home sold, 8 days after the sign went up! Finally got everything moved out.

When we lived in Sioux Falls, SD there were several people on our block that were “snow birds”–flew south for the winter. I thought Sioux Falls was as hot as Kansas had been during the summer but the winters were almost unbearable. There just wasn’t any Spring or Fall. And you have to arrange to have someone scoop your sidewalks and drive way unless you want to advertise “no one lives here–come on in and take what you want.” Some people handle it by allowing a neighbor to park in their driveways while they are gone so it will get scooped.
Our answer is to live where the grand kids live–that is our reason for being here in Kansas. When they are old enough to not care about us anymore we may go somewhere else,, but being near them is all the reason we need to live where we wouldn’t “choose” to live.

I would like a little heat right now. I am in Fairbanks, AK visiting my grand daughters and heading home to Idaho tomorrow. Woke up to snow today! Come on its our last day with the twins!!!

I don’ t think you would like the summers here in the Ohio valey of KY. The temp could be 100 but the humidity 200%. Just standing still makes you sweat like a cow. BTW, I hate cows, and pigs don’t sweat. Really! Once when I visited my sisters in Colorado my brother-in-law was wiping his brow and complaining about the humidity — it was 13%. I was drinking gallons of water just to keep my mouth moist and went through two tubes of lip balm in the two weeks I was there. I guess the moral of the story is that there is no Camelot. We live where we love and just find a way to cope with the weather. Thank God for air conditioners.

Our first summer in Texas, around the 4th of July when the AC broke down and it was over 100 I told Galen I didn’t move here just so he could brag to his family and friends in Jan. that he was playing golf in his bermudas! Of course we are still here, I have become somewhat used to the heat but not in the middle of the day. Actually it’s the glaring sun that gets to me. And the heat does not bother Galen at all!

Here in VA we’ve had freeze warnings followed by heat warnings. The only explanation I can think of is that Mother Nature is going thru menopause. My poor hens don’t know what to make of the weather.

It is worth it! I always remember the day my battery died in South Dakota and it was only a -20 degrees. 🙁
Just make sure you have a good air conditioner. 🙂

Yes, come on over to Maine for your summers, plenty of lobster and lovely weather. At least come for a couple of weeks vacation to see our beautiful state.
