This morning I was up and in the garden early, thinking I would be done before it got so hot but I wasn’t. I have three rows of sugar snap peas and I’ve been picking one row each day, shelling those and putting them up each night. With this heat, they’re about done so this morning I picked all three rows and it took forever and it was hot and I may never get done shelling peas! This weekend I will get Vince to pull the vines out and till it up so I can plant okra in that spot.
Once I was done picking the peas, I dug enough potatoes for dinner, picked the tomatoes that were ready and gathered the eggs. I walked into the house with my bucket and felt like a real country girl! I’m so loving the life we’re living here.
That’s a pretty big pile of peas, isn’t it? Aren’t the potatoes and eggs pretty? I had planned to get back out there this evening and do a bit of watering and fertilizing but never got around to it so I’ll be back out in the garden about daylight in the morning.
I love having a garden and having chickens and you know what else? I love having a blog so I can share all my excitement with you, the readers! Thanks for reading and thanks for all your comments. I don’t always have time to respond but it makes me happy to know you’re enjoying reading about what we’re doing here.

I planted about 75% of my small garden today and thought about you being able to garden all year long. It made me happy that I only do one. I forget each winter and spring how much work they take, even when they’re small. But I also thought how much I love living and raising my kids in the country and that this is teaching them a valuable skill at a young age just like mom did with us. 🙂 Enjoy that bounty from your garden and chickens.

You are very lucky to have all the fresh produce to eat, nothing tastes as good as something you have grown and is so fresh to eat…enjoy….

Looks like you will be out in the garden on a morning routine now as everything will be growing quickly. Nice to have all the fresh produce though and well worth the work to harvest. Looks yummy!!!

I so envy you being able to get outside and work so early in the morning. Here in NE Indiana you’d get eaten up by mosquitos. I am having to wait until it warms up and it’s too hot for mosquitos or me ! But little by little things are beginning to come together in my garden too.

Those peas would never have made it to the house. I love them raw and would have been picking, shelling and popping them in my mouth out in the garden. The whole basket looks so beautiful. Enjoy your bounty.

Hope to plant my garden in the next few days and just bought a little chicken coop for our new chickens! If only time allowed for quilting this time of year!
I love hearing about your quilting, gardening and chicken adventures and just life in general! What an entertaining (and informative) blog!

Your bounty looks so good. Wishwecouldhavechickens here. Miss those little guys. Those snap peas, are they heat tolorant. My patch didn’t take this year. I thought that peas like thecooler weathers. I planted snap peas and snow peas, neither row came up. These were fresh seeds from out farmers store too. My potato plants are up and so are my onions. Al;l is not a waste. My soil is on the lousy side, hard to get enough water to the roots, I do have drip hoses set up for each row.
Myson and I are loading up the rest ofhe patchwith horse manure to help boost up my soil so water can penitrate in the ground. Worked last year for my summer plants and beans.
Keep posting your achievements I love to read them and tell Vionce he is doing a great job around your home.

The peas are not heat tolerant. I pulled them all up this morning.

I just read your post to my friend visiting from Arizona. She laughs at the same places I do, and really enjoyed it. You are a country girl!

When I have sugar snap peas, I eat the whole thing, shells and all, just like snow peas (mange-tout). Delicious and oh so simple!!

And just so you know the worth of your crop, sugar snap peas sell for about $20/kg here in Australia!!!
