This time last week, I just knew that by Saturday (5 days ago), I would have a working dishwasher. No . . I do not. In fact, this is what my kitchen looks like now:
Not only is the dishwasher still in the middle of the floor, but now the fridge has been moved to the middle of the floor also.
Yesterday evening the electrician came. He had to pull the fridge out because he put in a new plug, on its own breaker, for the fridge. Our fridge is quite unlevel and it messes up the ice maker. Leveling the fridge, with its little screw out feet, shouldn’t be a problem, but . . well, let’s not go there. When Chris had the fridge out, Vince said “leave it out and I’ll level it” but he had the surgery on his nasal passage yesterday so he can’t bend down and deal with it. The fridge is quite easy to slide in and out so I thought about saying “I’ll just push it back into its hole and we’ll pull it out when you feel like dealing with it”, but decided . . it was best not to go there either.
The good news is . . I don’t think I can get to the stove! The additional good news is . . the dishwasher has its own plug now. I’m not getting my hopes up but I’m really anticipating having a dishwasher . . let’s just say . . soon!
The cabinet isn’t finished, the drawers aren’t painted so I still can’t use any of that area. Everything from under the sink is on the front porch in a Rubbermaid tote and we had crazy wind, rain and hail last night so I’m betting that tote is pretty wet inside.
What can I say? I’ll be happy when the dishwasher is working.

If you can not get to the stove Vince may want to take you to eat Chinese. LOL

did you happen to think that the dishwasher was installed—it was just outside the kitchen instead of inside–wind, rain, and hail sounds just like a dishwasher, LOL
i know you’ll be happy when all this is hooked up and back in it’s place. Judy without a kitchen is like Judy without a longarm quilting machine.

I feel for you, Judy. The dishwasher didn’t work in the “new” house. I told the guys just to bring the Bosch upstairs from the basement kitchen, but Don said, “No, our fridge and the new stove are black, and your dishwasher is going to match, not be beige.” LOL!! Never thought I would hear that from him. So, the new one is partially in, but the old one is still sitting in the middle of the floor, too. I’ll just stay in the master bedroom with my steamer and scraper, and finish removing that ugly wallpaper. LOL!! Eve

I thought about you this morning when I read about the TX tornados. So glad you, and your kitchen, are still there. I know that when everything is back in it’s place, and working, you will be forgetting the mess you are living in now. Happy sewing, knitting, weaving, etc.

My husband thinks the same way. We brought home a new computer last week but it is 1 inch too tall to fit under the desk. So hubby decides we have to add risers to the desk sides. It’s been a week. The desk is still pulled out from the wall, computers, boxes and files are all over the place and the risers are still in the shop being stained. Maybe this weekend…………..

I am SO sorry. I truly hope everything gets better soon!

That’s the rule in construction – everything takes much longer and costs much more than one expects! You are drawing closer, though!

I would imagine the fridge needs to be in its “hole” anyway when you level it.

Oh Judy, you make my life seem so simple. I have 2 dishwashers — one at the end of each arm. My ‘fridge got cleaned out this morning when my cleaning lady (an annual Christmas gift from my kids) called to tell me she was coming at my daughters request to clean it out, took everything out and found a lot of stuff that was growing homemade penicillion. I kinda remember buying the stuff, but then had an MS relapse and didn’t get around to cooking it so it has been sitting in there for months turning all kinds of strange colors. I really feel for you, especially with Vince recovering from the nasal surgery. My ex had that and thought he could just get back on the farm right after, but boy! did he have a come to Jesus moment when I brought him home and he couldn’t move. I’m in a two room apartment now and have downsized completely, and after this morning have decided to shop every day or so for only what I want to cook that day only. And I’m using the home made hand cream after my little dishwashers do their job. Good luck to you and Vince. I love your blog.

If its not too late have them put a pigtail on the dishwasher and install a 20 amp plug receptacle in the wall rather than hard wire it. If it ever leaks (god forbid) or you need to change it out for whatever reason you will be elighted you can just unplub it, and not have to deal with spliced wires. We added 7 outlets when we redid our kitchen and have never been sorry. We even added an additional one under the sink (next to the switched one for the Garbage disposal) for the instant hot. I love my instant hot. We also added an additional oe in the back of the pop up mixer cabinet so it is always plugged in. The only place we should have put one and did not is the appliance garage, sure wish we had. You will love your new kitchen.

Is this a male thing? This almost but not quite finishing something? My son willingly started installing shelving in my laundry room – got about halfway done – (with the laundry room stuff parked all over the kitchen and dining room) – and there it has stayed. It is now almost 3 months later.
I COULD include the doorbell wiring that was supposed to have been fixed/replaced/done whatever with – that was 3 years ago – and it still is exposed.
My kitchen IS closer to being done however – looks gorgeous – as long as you don’t look at the windows – which still desperately need replacing – one of these days……
So – is this a male thing? Or a just because thing??? And is this related to the car that sits in my driveway for 5 years now that will not move, needs to be re-homed – or better yet – hauled off for junk????
Inquiring minds want to know – not that it makes any difference…..
