Camp Loopy has started and despite Vince’s threat, he did not withdraw me from Camp Loopy! You know me . . I would never try to talk someone into doing something but . . there are advantages to doing Camp Loopy. You get a discount, you get a prize at the end if you do all three session, it’s good, friendly competition . . even if you don’t finish, it’s fun!
I think this is my third summer to participate in Camp Loopy. No . . maybe it’s the 4th summer. I can’t remember. All I know for sure is that during the summer of 2011, we were moving and that was quite a crazy summer. Every year about this time, I come up with a million reasons why I can’t or shouldn’t do Camp Loopy but I know the minute it starts, and everyone else is doing it, I would be so sad if I weren’t do it. I’m in!
So, for the first camp session, we have to use a single skein of lace weight or fingering weight yarn and use at least 375 yards. And, it has to be a yarn we’ve never used before. One skein of yarn! I don’t have a clue what I will make but half the fun for me is going through all the patterns on Ravelry and planning and scheming. I don’t know why I feel the need to order my yarn the instant I know what the rules are. We can’t start til June 1 but .. I ordered my yarn yesterday as soon as I saw Sheri’s blog post.
The yarn I ordered is Three Irish Girls Adorn Sock in the color Storm Brew. (I don’t know if that link will work once they run out of yarn and there’s only one skein left as of the writing of this post.)
After spending hours, literally, going through patterns, I’ve narrowed it down to these . . but I could add more to the list! 🙂
Storm Warning
Afternoon Tea
To Infinity and Beyond
3S Shawl
Summer Flies
The real problem with Camp Loopy is that on Ravelry, everyone is showing the yarn they ordered and what they’re going to make and I want to order all the yarn and buy all the patterns. That’s not good!
Right now, I’m leaning towards Storm Warning, or Summer Flies, or . . maybe 3S Shawl. Heck . . I don’t have a clue what I’ll make.

I’d do either Storm Warning or Summer Flies…if I knew how to do such fancy work! Both are gorgeous!

I agree with Julie, either Storm Warning or Summer Flies, they are both gorgeous! Maybe since you ordered yarn called Storm Brew, you should go with the “matching” shawl, Storm Warning!

Summer Flies gets my vote!

Well, duh, you have to order immediately or by the time you get around to it, you have little little choices. This will be my 3d camp I believe…..I found the LE Seasonings – and I found a pretty one with yellow in it – will be a pair of socks for a friend who likes yellow (it is sometimes very hard to find a good yello!!)…not sure which sock pattern since it will have to be one that looks okay with variegated yarns but solid colored heel and top (and maybe toe?) Anyone have any suggestions?

Of course, I had to join. They say this is the third summer of Camp Loopy. I am doing Afternoon Tea for my girlfriend who does a lot of Civil War dress up stuff for the local museum. I ordered Loopy Ewe sock yarn in barn red. She will be scandalous!

Okay, I’m new to all of this. What and where is Camp Loopy. Just the name makes me want to join, and I already know the yarn and pattern I willl use. Just want to know more details about the camp and how to join.

We have the same taste in patterns. I have a Storm Warning in progress. Love the beads on the edging.

My vote is Summer Flies….

I just now placed my first Loopy Ewe order, so I can go to camp loopy, too! I ordered Sweet Georgia Cashsilk Lace and I plan to make a feather and fan scarf.
I made summer flies a couple of summers ago, and it was a fun knit.

I just placed my Camp Loopy order. I am making the Owlee CABLE MITTS pattern from www,newstitchaday.com. It is my first attempt at cables. The cables for adorable little owls with pearl button eyes.
Mel Meister says
That should read “the cables ARE adorable little owls with pearl button eyes”.

But really, where and when? I finally found some Red Heart Truffles to make a finger knit rufffled scarf that I found the pattern for on Pinterest and I’m anxioux to get started to see if I can knit without kneedles. Just need to know more details about Camp Loopy. Lord knows I’m already loopy enough, at least according to my kids, but this sounds like something I would enjoy. Please, please, some details for the newby.

For those looking for Camp Loopy info – Judy has it above — first sentence “Camp Loopy” underlined and in color – it’s a link – you will find all info about camp there. I’ll be back for year number 3. Yarn was ordered yesterday — hard part picking a yarn I haven’t used – I think I’ve figured out which pattern so I think I’ll be all set to start on the deadline. 🙂

Okay – not underlined unless you hover over it but everything in color is a link.

Judy- just checked out the Storm Brew — love all the shading in that yarn! Whatever you use it for – it promises to be gorgeous.

I’m ready for Camp Loopy! This will be my second year of camp. I ordered Mountain Colors – Crazyfoot yarn in the color Red Tail Hawk from the Loopy Ewe. I’m going to use the pattern Winnie from Irish Girls Knits. I think this yarn will knit up gorgeously in the sock pattern.

I like Afternoon Tea and Summer Flies the best. But do you ever wear shawls?
Amy (Waunaknit) says
I vote for Storm Warning. That’s what I’m thinking of doing. I ordered Skein Top Draw sock for camp, but a skein of 3IG Adorn Sock also came along for the ride. P.S. This is the third year of camp. I still kick myself for not doing project #2 the first year and not getting any Wollmeise. (Although I may have some coming directly from Germany.)
