Mostly I stayed out of the kitchen today, as instructed, so it seems to me that the cabinet work went smoothly. It isn’t all finished but the hard work is done. Vince will have to prime and paint the new wood and they ran into a problem with the electrical part of the job. They were going to use one of the electrical plugs that was already in the kitchen but when they checked it, all the plugs in the kitchen, including the fridge, are on one circuit breaker. They want the fridge and dishwasher to be separate. In fact, Vince wants the fridge on its own breaker so the dishwasher didn’t get hooked up. The electrician is already scheduled to be here next week anyway for several other projects so we’ll see if we can get him out here sooner rather than later.
As they were taking things apart, they were bracing the countertop because they didn’t want it to crack. I was standing in the back saying . . Crack! Crack! Crack! That’s probably the only way I’m going to get new countertop. They did their job and it did not crack.
At this point, I was kinda sad to see the whole section of cabinets gone but you can bet I kept that sentiment to myself.
Looking like a dishwasher may fit right in there!
Vince was working very hard . . holding up this post, which if you’ll notice is quite crooked anyway. You’ll also notice that the back door and front door were both wide open. At this point, I wasn’t asking any questions . . just trying to get a few pictures without getting in the way.
Except for the wiring, the dishwasher is installed! The cabinets and drawers will be primed and painted and I will be a happy cook once again. I love the skinny cabinet where I can put my pizza peel, cookie sheets, cooling racks, and by having that little cabinet there and moving the dishwasher over to the right a little, when I stand in front of the sink to load the dishwasher, I’m not going to feel nearly so crowded.
I have no idea when the new cabinet will get done. We decided to go with 8′ instead of 10′ because the wall is 12′ and leaving just 1′ on either end (we wanted to center it and we couldn’t put it right up against a window) might have looked crowded. I was joking and asked the guy if he would have it ready by next weekend and he said NO! That’s the only discussion we had about when it would be ready but I will be very happy whenever it is ready.
We’re both glad to have the dishwasher project this close to being finished.

This looks so nice. I had one of those narrow cabinets in our kitchen in the basement, but none in the kitchen we use now. I really miss it.
We also don’t have a drawer under the oven, because we purchased a double oven stove. That was my other stash place for my baking pans and broiling pan. I hope I am able to figure out a better way to store these pans soon as I am using them more and more every week.

When I got the new stove, we talked about getting a double oven because I had two separate ovens in MO and loved it but I wasn’t willing to give up the drawer under the oven so we have just the regular oven in the house and then put the old stove in the shop so I can use it as backup if I need more baking space.

So glad to see mr. Speck! This looks very good.

It looks great. To keep things in perspective, I’d love to have your counter to replace mine that has a popped up place from the last owners. =) So a few more days of washing dishes, and then … freedom!

Yeah! I hope the electrician comes early in the week and gets you all hooked up.
