Maybe this old hen should be made into “Sweet & Sour Chicken” because she sure was sour when I was trying to get eggs yesterday. A couple of my friends are scared of being pecked . . a couple of my men friends are scared of being hen pecked too! 🙂
I always tell my friends that it doesn’t really hurt when they peck you but dang it . . I have a couple of hens, Mean Chicken and this one, who growl at me when I try to get eggs from under them and it always makes me jump. For the most part, they don’t peck me . . they just try to scare me away and sometimes . . it works!
For your viewing pleasure . . me trying to get eggs from a grumpy hen.

LOL when the video ends youtube suggests a bunch of links for how to make sweet and sour chicken recipes.

Oh my! Do you have a back hatch so you can sneak up on her from behind? She is a surly bird indeed.
Debbie Rhodes says
Funny how the sound brought back the smells of the hen house.. love it.

LOL – didn’t realize that you had you tube suggesting sweet and sour chicken recipes! Wonder if it would help if you showed both Mean chicken I and Sour chicken II the recipes!
But it sure does bring back the collecting egg time from a couple of cantankerous old biddies!

Lol I will never forget those sounds. Thanks for the reminders of my childhood and my dad who is now deceased. He raised all kinds of farm animals on our farm with my help. Of course I was always trying to turn the animals into pets.

Funny! I’ve never heard a chicken growl before!

All I can think is: “What fun it would be to spend a week with you!” Thanks for posting your stories!

I’m with Shelli – you should charge a lot of money for “a week on the farm with the Laquidara’s” and then work all the participants to death ! (quilting borders workshop in the morning, weeding in the afternoon, maybe?)

That is amusing. I don’t know if she’s tender enough for sweet and sour chicken. Might have to be stewed!

I guess she woke up on the wrong side of the nest!

She was definitely giving you the evil eye…..too funny.
She was not falling for your sweet voice one bit!

She wants to be a momma hen!

Thanks for the little video. I never heard a chicken growl like that before. Mine have only pecked me once and it scared me more than hurt me. Thanks for sharing.
Mary C in WA says
you sure ruffled her feathers yesterday. She’d make great sweet and sour chicken, sounds good to me.
Kerstin says
Did anyone else notice that youtube shows a bunch of chicken recipies as recommended videos?!

Oh my,! Grumpy chicken…. the feathers on her neck went up, that’s not a good sign when a dog’s hair stands up and I’m thinking that’s not a good sign for a chicken either. I know you said fresh eggs taste better but it’s much easier when eggs are already in a box! And Houdi is adorable, such a sweet face!

Judy,
I have decided you stay awake at night thinking up these stores, like mean chicken and grumpy chicken so you cam make me laugh so hard I have tears in my morning coffee. Every story seams better than the last one. Thank you. Nothing better than a laugh in the morning.
