Our fence builder is on vacation so we’ll have to wait another 10 days or so for the front fence to be completed. It’s going to take a couple of days for me to get used to seeing a fence in front of the house. I told Vince on the first day that I felt like I was in jail . . not that I’ve ever been in jail! The pipe fence was there when we bought the house and I’m just to crawling between the pipes instead of walking to the gates but . . can’t do that any more.
It was about to get dark when I took this picture. We had the fence guy weld the 5 hooks for bird feeders but so far, we’ve only found and cleaned one feeder. Vince got it hung up yesterday. I also want to get a bird bath . . poor birds are searching for water just like all the other creatures.
Are these Devil’s Claw cactus? I’ve never seen them make a pod like most Devil’s Claw but I think that’s what they are. We found a few more of those in the front.
After a couple of good rains, the Dianthus are blooming and the lavender is about to bloom. We get just a bit of spring here before the full drought sets in and everything turns brown so I’m enjoying having some blooms outside.
We’re hoping that since it’s still so cool towards the end of April that maybe we won’t have such a hot summer but I think that’s just wishful thinking on our parts.

Judy, I think it is a Devils Pincushion. I had one for years in Abilene. I’ll try to find a pic of a Devils Claw. That’s what crafters make “Texas Mosquitos ” out of. Kind of hard to describe.
You and Vince just wear me out. But I’m also very envous of you living in the Brownwood area. lol
We used to go fishing on the Colorado River. Got to it through Indian Creek. I don’t know if there are roads leading to it anymore that don’t go across someone’s property. Maybe your neighbor will know.

I think my lavendar died over the winter. It;s gotten enough water.

We have 3 birdbaths and a fountain on the porch in the shade. I am constantly filling them. One year they completely destroyed a hanging basket with succulants. My Christmas cactus has scares on it from the birds. Several years ago before we got more birdbaths I put out some big plant saucers with water.

I’ve been hoping the same thing for this summer. I think we have the possibility of some mixed snow & rain tomorrow night.

The fence looks gorgeous, Judy! I like how the wire is attached, too. Is that to keep the deer & other larger critters out? Love it!
