It was a tough call. One thing I’m going to try to do . . except for Block of the Month type things, is when I start working on something, I’m going to finish it at least as far as getting the top made and ready to be quilted, backing chosen and put with the top and the binding made.
After having finished the Chevron top last night, it was time to decide what to work on next. I really wanted to work on Road to Llano but decided to finish the Big and Bright top.
This is how I wish all my UFOs were put away.
All the pieces. Instructions . . so easy to pick up and start sewing again.
This was the original plan.
Those blocks are just too pretty to not have a pieced border. I spent some time playing with EQ and here’s what I came up with.
A simple little border but it really makes a difference. The border blocks are 3″. I think I may make them 4-1/2″ which will be the same size as the center nine patches. There’s time to play with it before I get to the border.

I agree! The pieced border makes it.

Wow! What a difference the pieced border makes.

love that pieced border with the quilt. it lightens the appearance of the whole quilt so that it’s not so chunky.

Much better. More 9-ptches. 🙂 I’m beginning to think that the 9-patch is your trademark. 🙂

Like the pieced border the best. It gives it a fanez(misspelled).
Claire says
When you were playing on EQ did you try the 9-patches in the border on point? That would make 3 inches into 4 1/2 (or close).
Angie in SoCal says
You do magic with those borders.

Linda Smith says
O.K., that does it — I have to get your book and learn how to do pieced borders. It is a beautiful quilt, but the border makes it spectacular!
