A blog reader just sent me this. I normally don’t post things like this but it’s just so cute and so true! I wish I knew to whom to give credit for this but I do not. Read through them all and see if it doesn’t make you want to move to the great state of Texas? 🙂
You’ve heard me mention some of this stuff:
- Blanket, Texas – that’s where we go to eat out.
- Santa Anna, Texas – that’s where the closest quilt shop is located . . though it’s closing on June 1.
- Dublin, Texas is where the famous Dr Pepper plant was located, along with the Dr Pepper museum.
I love Foxworthy’s comments:
- Knowing folks who have hit deer more than once.
- Measuring distance in Texas in hours and I might add . . anything less than 4 hours away is considered real close.
- I think after my recent conversations in Wal-Mart and Tractor Supply, the one about getting assistance in Lowe’s from someone who doesn’t work there must fit me pretty well too.
- We learned about the position of the Texas flag shortly after moving here.
- I never knew there was no period in Dr Pepper.
We are taking applications for Honorary Texans. For those who are not already blessed Texans, now is your chance.
Some interesting things about our great state!!!!!

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about folks from Texas
If someone in a Lowe’s store offers you assistance and they don’t work there, you may live in Texas;
If you’ve had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Texas;
If ‘Vacation’ means going anywhere south of Dallas for the weekend, you may live in Texas;
If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Texas;
If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Texas;
If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in Texas;
If you carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Texas;
If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph –you’re going 80, and everybody’s passing you, you may live in Houston, Texas;
If you find 60 degrees ‘a little chilly,’ you may live in Brownsville, Texas;
If you actually understand these jokes, and share them with all your Texas friends, you definitely have lived in Texas.

Linda in NE says
Hey, we have a Venus and Mars in Nebr. too. You won’t find them on any map since they’re both “ghost” towns any more though they are still called the Venus and Mars communities. Both are within a few miles of my home.

I love it! I’m the only one in my family born outside Texas in my generation. My dad’s family immigrated there from Germany in 1851. My mother’s from Louisiana in 1917. I once thought I’d wind up in Uvalde, and still find myself wishing I had. And I know how to use the jumper cables I carry. =)
Diana Stewart says
As you can guess we have been to a lot of the towns listed there is alao a Ding Dong, TX. And we now have whopping cranes wintering and raising young on Lake Granger, near Granger, TX. Something about food supply on the coast. TX is a fun place to live!
Marion Morgan says
Great, loved it and remembered many of them having lived there for 18 months years ago. Many visits as I had an aunt in Beaumont and another in Dallas and my godson lives in Austin. Great state, lots of fun no wonder you enjoy it so.
Meloney says
We lived in Sunset Valley, TX (near Austin)
My DH is always saying “Only in Texas!” LOL
Jennifer says
Hey Meloney,
I live in Oak Hill! Maybe we can connect in person some day.
Missy says
I’ve always wanted to live in Happy, TX -thought that would be a neat address! My Yankee husband never really understood my lack of wanting to know miles versus hours, when measuring distance, until we moved to TX. (I’m from TX)
Micki clemens says
It sounds upright! I’d be proud to live there. Micki

LOL…..I’m born and raised in Texas. Love your post. I don’t know if you mentioned the following places in Texas…
Fairy in Hamilton County; Odds in Limestone County; Bug Tussle in Fannin County;; Dicey in Parker County; Cologne in Goliad County; Gasoline in Briscoe County and one of my favorites Weeping Mary in Cherokee County.
I really enjoyed your post!!!!
Lee says
Wow, that’s a whole lot more about Texas than I ever thought I’d read! Under ‘just Texas’ though, ‘someone’ needs to know that there is a Paradise CA and a Sweet Home OR as well. I’m assuming ‘just Texas’ meant those cities were only found in Texas – perhaps I misunderstand. Love the Frognot, TX – guess there’s no frogs there? My daughter lives up in the Panhandle area, so I have some TX affiliation.
Shelia says
I was born in Gainesville, TX and lived lots of places there (my Dad was a truck driver). The longest place we lived was Athens. Moved to Arkansas when I was 15, nearly killed me (I thought). Fell in love and married an Arkie, have lived here 32 yrs. Everybody here says youn’s but I still say ya’ll. We have 1DS and 2DD’s DS and DD1 say youn’s like DH, DD2 says ya’ll like her Momma. I may be transplnted but still a Texas girl at heart. Love this post, made me think of things I hadn’t thought of in a while. Thanks.

LOL!

I was born and raised in Texas and my family goes back to the 1830’s there, there are a few places named after the family which make me very proud to this day. I always growing up thought Texas was a country and not a state and the proud Texas family I am from never corrected me, I guess being a Texan runs deep.
Terri says
Being a Texan does definitely run deep! I’ve lived in NM for 27.5 years but I still think like a Texan. And reading this list made me homesick. I had family in Noodle TX at one time and I lived near Notrees. Loved this Judy!
Cindy Stowe says
Proud to be a Texan! As a truck driver, I think I’ve driven through every one of those towns you listed! I live just east of Dallas on Lake Tawakoni.
Linda Steller says
Okay – the one thing I want to know about Texas — If you live in NoTrees and plant a tree, does the guy with the little red flags show up? ;D
Brandy M. says
Oh my Texas – that is some GREAT information!!! I Love Jeff Foxworthy!!!!
🙂
Terri Schanz says
There’s a Saginaw, Texas too! I was born and raised in Saginaw, MI. The one in the song. The one that Simon and Garfunkel took two days to hitchhike from in their song about looking for America. The name Saginaw comes from the Ojibwa Indians, who were the original inhabitants, There is also a Saginaw County and Saginaw Bay (the part between the hand and the thumb of the mitten). I was curious how a city named Saginaw ended up in Texas, and found out it was named in 1882 by a man who had worked on Saginaw Street in Pontiac MI before settling in Texas. ..
