Sometimes I feel kinda bad when I post something I’m doing and I start getting questions about it because I never want to talk anyone into doing something and I don’t want your husbands to dislike me because you do things and blame me. (Ernie D., I’m talking to you! Please don’t dislike me! I can’t help it that your wife really wants a new longarm and mine is arriving tomorrow!)
This is a post I wrote when I was first thinking I might buy a loom. This is the post I write when I bought the loom.
My loom is a Schacht Flip 25″ loom with a floor stand. I believe I can make something that’s the full 25″ wide.
Two things I would like for you to know if you’re considering a loom.
- Sheri at The Loopy Ewe can order any loom you want, along with the accessories you may need.
- The Craftsy rigid heddle weaving class is amazing. When I first wanted a loom, I took a two day class at The Yarn Born n Kansas. It was an excellent class but the class at Craftsy is fantastic! The classes are available for me to look at over and over. The instructor is great! I’m really impressed with the class structure and just signed up for the “Beyond Basics” class at Craftsy. If you seriously think you might want a loom, you can gain some real insight about using the loom in the Craftsy class for just a little investment. If you decide to get a loom, the classes are available for you to watch again and again any time you feel that you need help. I’ve kept the iPad by my loom for the past couple of days.
The loom I bought was a bit more expensive than the smaller Schacht Cricket loom but the Cricket is very popular and a great little loom. Just today I was thinking I should get a Cricket to take with me when I travel . . but for now, I don’t go anywhere much so I guess I don’t need a Cricket but they surely are cute.
So, if you’re thinking about getting a rigid heddle loom, you can start out with a Cricket, or buy a bit larger, either the Schacht Flip or a Kromski Harp and there are others. Figure out what works best for you and go for it!

I sent this to my son because he has been thinking about buying a loom for a while.

Judy, is there one site where you can view t all the different rigid heddle looms in one place to compare them more easily?
Judy D in WA says
LOL He thinks we are both nuts! I looked at the looms, then I talked myself out of it. For now anyhow. 😉 😉
I love the Craftsy classes.

Aw Judy D – you could have learned right along with me! My 15″ Cricket is in the box on my dining table waiting to be put together and the floor stand and different size heddle are on order.

I started with a Cricket and then got the same rigid heddle you have, which is great. I have found it to be a fun way to use beautiful multi-color sock yarns and turn them into scarves. Whatever you’re working with up there is beautiful!
