Since I seem to be doing a “Road to Texas Towns” series, starting with the Road to Brownwood quilt, I was thinking it would be nice to share a little info about the town we’re “quilting around”. Thanks to a friend who lives in Round Rock, here’s a little info about them.
See the round rock? You can read the story about the round rock and quite a bit of info on Round Rock, Texas on my friend, Diana’s blog. Thank you, Diana, for the info and for allowing me to share your photo.
There’s a bit more info here.
And what I know you’re all asking yourself every day . . how far is Round Rock, Texas from Brownwood, Texas? The answer, according to mapquest, is 129 miles or 2 hours, 15 minutes. I have not been to Round Rock since we moved to Brownwood.

I will be in Round Rock in May – I am so excited!! any recommendations on quilt shops?
Diana in RR Texas says
There is Austin Sewing just off of I-35 which is pretty good. Poppy’s in Georgetown, HoneyBee just off of Anderson Mill and 183 and if you want to go to Salado-a fun town to visit just north of us-there is the Sewing Basket. those are just a few and easliy foubnd on the internet. HoneyBee was in last years Spring edition of the 10 best quilt shops. Oh yes, The Cotton Cupboard near Lake Travis (Lakeway area). And depending on how long and how much free time you have to visit shops-Creations is in Kerrville about 2 hours west of us. Then you stop at the BlueBonnet Cafe in Marble Falls on the way back for some fantastic pies.

thanks for this info, Diana. My son and DIL live in RR and we visit often but I have not gone to the shop in Georgetown and have not heard of Austin Sewing. Have been to the Bernina store in Cedar Park and Honey Bee on a shop hop. Sewing Basket is a nice one; glad they found a new owner and did not close. Creations is a fantastic shop–worth a special trip!

I wanted to get to Quilt Con last month but didn’t make it. Did you go? We will be in RR next week so will try to get to Poppy’s at least.
Diana in RR Texas says
No, I didn’t get to quilt con. You know the Bernina store has closed. Austin Sewing used to be Austin Sew in Vac. Poppy’s is a good shop. they are closed Sunday and Monday. Am happy that Barbara bought her shop back. Have not been there recently-trying very hard to be good and use up some of my past purchases! Enjoy your visit.
Carol Campbell says
Oh my, did not know the Bernina store closed. And there was a great yarn shop nearby that also closed. I’ll check out Austin Sewing maybe when I am visiting next week. And which shop are you referring to that Barbara “bought her shop back?” Is that Poppy’s?
Diana in RR Texas says
That’s about right-so you could make it to Razzoos for an late lunch and still be home before dark to make sure Hattie locked up for the night! Should we make a date?

Well, I didn’t realize you were in Brownwood. I live in Cibolo, which is near San Antonio, but closer to New Braunfels. Texas is a big state, and there are lots of roads to go to. 🙂
