Have you ever heard of bailing a well? I had not! Vince knew all about it. I think it’s something you do with a new well to clean out any sand or gravel left down the hole. I really don’t know but I know that last Saturday we went to Home Depot. We do that often on Saturdays! Vince, being an engineer, had everything worked out in his head. They hardly had any of the things he needed to make the plan work. By the time we left Home Depot, I think the guy in the plumbing department was happy to see us go.
We got home and Vince managed to put together his “bailer” with whatever parts he had at home.
I was so afraid something was going to come loose in there and ruin the new well.
I still am not totally sure about all this.
Vince said it was really heavy pulling it up . . 150 or so feet!
Vince was pouring the water onto the ground. I was saying . . Don’t pour it on the ground! Pour it on the fruit trees! All he was interested in was “bailing the well” . . which I still don’t understand.

Keep the bail around. If you ever have a long term power outage, you will be able to draw water with it even if your solar powered pump doesn’t work.

Is there going to be more stuff built around the well to protect it or anything? (I’m envisioning a wishing well look..LOL).

I’m always learning something new on your blog. I google.d “bailing a well” to figure out what Vince was doing. How long did he have to work? It sounds like a long, hard job.

yes this is new to me too! interesting I will know more if I ever have to dig a well! I also was surprised that it was such a small pipe! guess I’m thinking of something large enough to fall into! OMG wouldn’t want that!

Let me just say here that I’m not up on well drilling and I’m not an engineer (though it would pay better!). I kind of see the point of this bailing procedure, and I’m sure Vince went about it in the most economical way he could, but wouldn’t an old fashioned hand pump have accomplished the same thing without having pull that tube full of water up out of the well hand-over-hand?

That’s so interesting – you know I’ll be doing the “bailing a well” google search now…
