When I show a picture of something on the longarm, there’s always a question about the quilt on the wall behind the longarm.
I made this in about 1995 for Vince. He was living in Georgia and would fly in to Houston when he came to visit me in Louisiana. No matter which airport he used, there were quilt shops. He knew that I loved tone on tone fabrics and one day we were in one of the shops that had all the Moda Marble fabrics. This was before we were married, before he knew he shouldn’t feed my fabric obsession, and he told the lady we would take 1/2 yard of every one of their Moda Marble fabrics. It’s a good thing I wasn’t doing stash reports back then!
I wanted to make something for him using some of the fabrics. About that time, there was a quilt in Quilters Newsletter (I think) that used the 9 degree wedge ruler. I can’t remember the details but I think the magazine quilt was a full size quilt but I somehow managed to make this wall hanging from what was in the magazine.
It’s 34″ x 34″. It’s hand quilted — but there’s not much quilting. Vince kept it hanging in his office for years but, it’s in my sewing room now! 🙂

Oh, Judy, what a nice story. He was hooked and, no, he had no idea about quilters. Look how well everything turned out.

What a beautiful story! I’m a fairly new reader so I don’t know the story of how you and Vince met and married but I would love to hear it someday.

Thought I posted this yesterday but guess I did something wrong. I love the quilt. I saw a tree skirt made with the 9 degree ruler that I want to make but haven’t been able to find the ruler in a quilt shop yet. Guess I have a year to find it and get it made though.

Beautiful quilt and lovely story, Judy. I have one of those rulers but never used it. I think the mariners compass in the center was a brilliant idea.
