My idea to load one big backing piece and quilt three QOVs back to back, worked out great! The quilts were 64″ x 84″. The backing fabric is regular 44″ (almost) wide 100% cotton fabric. Five lengths of fabric, about 94″ in length, were sewn together so that I had one big backing piece that was about 94″ x 220″. I loaded it with the seams horizontal to the bars.
Warm & Natural batting was used. Even though W&N is a dense batting, it isn’t a real thick batting but if I were to do this again, I’d probably use one of the thinner battings, like Mountain Mist Rose or Quilters Dream Request or Select weights.
My quilting is done on an APQS Millennium with an older model table. On my machine, after the third quilt was rolled up into the throat of the machine, it was just about touching on the stabilizing bar. I could not have done three quilts if they had been larger than 64″ wide, nor could I have done a fourth quilt without making some adjustments to the stabilizing bar.
I’m glad I tried this experiment. I’m glad the quilting is done and I know how I operate . . if I had been piecing and loading all these backings separately, I’d probably have one top quilted instead of having all three of them done! It worked well for me.

I’ve been doing multiples on my Nolting for 5 or 6 yrs. Love doing more than 1 at a time.

I don’t usually have three that are real close to the same size and are using the same backing fabric but it wasn’t bad.
Susan says
44″ wide? How did 64″ fit on that? I’m having trouble visualizing that part, but not the multiple quilts part. =)
JudyL says
5 widths was enough for three quilts. They each have a seam somewhere in the backing. I do that all the time.

I had the numbers wrong but I’ve fixed them.

What is a QOV?

It woud be nice if the Moen ad didn’t cover up half of your post. I could not read the first part. Sad.
