Sunday afternoon Vince got the apricot trees planted. He commented that most of the time when we’ve bought fruit trees, it takes weeks to get them planted. Usually there’s a bit of back and forth about how long it’s taking to get them planted! These were delivered on Saturday and planted on Sunday. He’s such a good worker! 🙂
As you’re looking at the pictures, notice the sky and the woods and you’ll see why we love it so much here. Of course, no one can see us outside but at one point, I grabbed Vince and said “I LOVE it here! I LOVE my life! Thank you for moving us here!”
Even the old S-10 got in on the action.
Everything Vince does . . he does with gusto. He digs the deepest holes and then puts in all kinds of stuff.
At this point in the digging, he hit limestone. He got his San Angelo Bar and tried to chop through it to see if it was solid or just a layer but it was pretty solid. He was able to chop through enough that he felt it was ok to go ahead and plant the trees there.
He told me he was going to have to use his tractor to bring some sand around to where he was planting the trees. I was sewing and heard what I thought was the tractor and went out to get a picture. The tractor has been here over a year and now has 5 hours on it. When we kick the bucket, someone is going to get a good deal on some slightly used equipment!
Wait a minute . . that’s not the tractor. That’s my chariot! I said “I thought you were using the tractor!” He said he was . . it was already out front. He said “I’m using ALL the equipment today!” Such a funny guy.
Look at that gorgeous blue sky on a 65º degree day in early February. Oh . . does that sound like I’m boasting about our weather? That’s ok . . remind me in July and August when I’m wilting in the heat.
Yep, he had everything out there! You’ll notice we planted these trees outside the fence. We’re going to make that front area the orchard and put more fruit trees out there.
Before the Super Bowl started, the apricot trees were planted, watered, mulched and fenced.
We are so lucky to live here!

I just want apricot jam and dried apricots for snacks!

Wow! Did you ever think you would become such great gardeners? I could use a bit of that green thumb over here. Alas, if I grow it, it will get eaten by our local critters.

That’s why the fences go up around each tree the minute it is planted. We don’t plant anything unless it is protected by deer/rabbit fencing. Part of getting good results is protecting from the critters.

That Vince doesn’t cut ANY corners when he’s doing something (ANYTHING). You can tell he wants it done right the FIRST time! LOL

You’re right. That’s why even the simplest of projects usually becomes a big (and expensive) project around here.

I am going to be so envious of your apricots! I know a solution! I’ll send you a BIG box of Meyer’s and you can send me apricots.
Don uses an auger on his tractor to dig holes with and it works great but I’ll have to tell him about the San Angelo Bar.

Isn’t it wonderful to feel happy about where you are ! We felt that same giddiness when we moved to n. Carolina and it was so warm the first winter. I’m still grateful, and the gardening is so much easier than up north. Good luck with your garden. Micki

This post makes me SO happy! I love hearing about your garden happenings, but something about this is just… well, special. How fun that Vince got to use all of the toys in this gardening adventure (5 hours – wow!). Enjoy those apricots!!
(do you think you’ll have fruit this year?)
