You know how they say bad things come in groups of three? Yay! The third one has now happened and we can resume normal life. I sometimes feel bad when I write blog posts like this because there are folks who have lots of turmoil and trouble in their lives and life is pretty perfect around here but when bam . . bam . . bam . . everything happens, it kinda makes me shake my head and wonder.
Issue #1: We bought a new fridge when we moved here last year. It’s a nice, big, French door type fridge with the freezer on the bottom and you can’t imagine how much I dislike that fridge. I dislike it for several reasons but the icemaker is the worst! Every 2 or 3 weeks, the ice maker stops dumping ice and Vince has to pound on it and knock all the ice off . . it’s like it just turns into a big blob of ice and stops dumping. That happened Saturday and in the process of cleaning it, he accidentally turned the ice maker off. We kept waiting for ice to dump and it didn’t so we were going to call a repair man to come out, which we probably should do anyway, and this morning he noticed that it was turned off. He turned it back on and I just heard it dump ice. Yay! Ice!
Issue #2: This morning I took the stove all apart to clean it . . lots of weekend cooking had left it a mess. I ran a sink full of hot dishwater and realized it wasn’t very hot. Sometimes, when we haven’t used hot water in a few hours, the water sitting in the tank isn’t real hot but once we start using it, it heats right up. So, I let that water out and ran some more and it was cooler. I thought . . I’d better take a quick shower before there’s NO hot water and I ended up with a lukewarm shower. Checked the water heater and the pilot was out. I got it lit again but we need to watch it and see if we need to get it worked on or probably . . get a new water heater.
Issue #3: It was about 10 a.m. by now and I decided to check my email and the blog. Yep . . no internet! I took the cell phone and went outside to the little spot where my cell phone works and sent Vince a message that the internet was out . . which means we also have no home phone and the cell phone only works way back in the back yard where it can get a signal. The internet provider here is the best we can get and I’m telling you . . it is not very reliable.
So .. what’s a girl to do? I took a nap! Vince walked in the door for lunch and woke me up. I never do that but it felt good.
And the good news is . . we have ice, we have hot water and we have internet. The good life . .

Judy – the group of 3 sounds ALL good!!!!!
(1) you discovered the icemakerr was off and now you have ice!
(2) You discovered the pilot light was out BEFORE everything had a temp of -40F and you turned blue from the shower – and now you have hot water!
(3) You discovered the internet was down and therefore so was the landline phone service – and you did so before (and God forbid) an emergency! and now you have internet/telephone service AND you got a nap in there as well!
Now if you had been ME – you would be sitting here with NO internet and probably none in sight for several hours yet (which is what happens if we have internet go down!), be turning blue from the frigid shower you took and probably have gassed yourself to death from the pilot light not having been working! Plus you would have discovered that not only the icemaker wasn’t working – but neither was the refrig which promptly did a thaw all over your clean floor and you have NO frozen foods either!
It’s all relative! Glass half empty/glass half full!

What are the OTHER things you don’t like about your French Door refridgerator? I am thinking about getting one, but don’t want to get stuck with something I don’t like!

sounds a lot like everyday at this house!
just a comment about refrigeraters……….
We also have a double door w/freezer on side.
I could tear the doors off everytime I open them..they don’t open wide enough to put my body infront to put things inside or hunt for things which is a constant juggling of containers to make space.
We had to have 3 new doors to the freezer, to replace the ice/water despenser. Now we just don’t use it, just open the door to get ice. as it leaks down the front if used.
Definitely got a lemon!
BTW…today, DH hooked up washer ( as we are remodeling)
and said go ahead to do laundry…….he forgot to hookup the hose to drain….had bleach water all over laundry room floor…good thing we will be replacing it! 🙂
Cheers…here’s to better days!

I love, love, love my French Door Refrig. Both doors opening wide allow me to put big pots/big cakes in it, and….my husband can find things (husband not being able to find things in any other fridge is a whole different story). Plus, the thing is sooo easy to clean because I do not have to become a contortionist to clean it!!

You ARE dogged by water heater problems, aren’t you? It makes me so nervous to think of you lighting the pilot light yourself, but (apparently) it worked, so good for you.

It’s an electronic lighter . . hold one button down and push another button . . completely safe. But, it went out again. I lit it again and after while it was out again so I’m done. Not sure if Vince can change the water heater out himself or if we have to call a plumber but I’m betting we won’t have hot water tonight.

I hope everything gets resolved quickly! It’s fun when things go wrong.

You are so right, Stuff seems to always go in threes. Haven’t had anything for a while (knock on wood) ha so now that I said that things will probably start falling apart. Just good to hear its working again.

My washing machine gave up the ghost today…while it was full of water and dirty-ish towels. Big sigh. I have been urging it along for a few days so I suspected the worst but hoping for some kind of mechanical miracle all the same!
Do a load of laundry in my name, please.

I’m also curious about your fridge. Are there other things you hate about it? I want to get a similar style, but with the drawer in the middle to hold meats/cheeses/yogurt, etc… We need to do a little remodeling first, because a bigger fridge won’t quite fit in the current space. Would welcome your thoughts.
Glad you were able to get the ice/water heater stuff worked out today. I hope the internet is fixed, too! Well, maybe it is if you were blogging, but since I can post a blog from my phone, I’m not convinced your home ‘net is fixed… Fingers crossed!

Our repair guy told us a few years ago that ALL the ice makers are made by the same company no matter what kind of refrigerator you have.. I’m a shortie so freezer on the bottom is not for me. I’m always in the ref. but the freezer not so much so I like side by side better.
