Whoa! It’s a good thing I didn’t ask for opinions yesterday! 🙂 I think some of my readers thought that was my first quilt and definitely the first time I’d designed a border!
This is my final decision. The quilt is about 112″ x 112″ now so if it gets any bigger, I’ll have to have someone with a 14′ table quilt it.
It’s the same border as was in the fourth drawing, which most of you didn’t like but I like it. This is the version with all the borders — 8 borders and the outer brown edge is the binding. I’m not at all sure that I can have the colors match up as they do in the drawing because I may be out of some of the fabrics. I’ll have to see. If I can’t use the same fabrics to get them all to match up, I’ll not match up any of them with the same colors.
It’s still going to be days, if not a couple of weeks before I get to the borders. There are 25 chain blocks left to make.

ooh – I missed a few posts somewhere – but I do like how you are bordering this. EIGHT borders! I am working on one with four – and the middle one is pieced – and it is more than I am used to. Of course a typo in the pattern has not helped me, either. I’ll get it – eventually!

YES!! Adding that last lighter border really is the icing on the cake for your borders!
And if you don’t know anyone yet.. I have a 14 foot table. 🙂
Would love to have a try at quilting one of your beauties!

It’s beautiful Judy!

I think the cream borders do a great job of evening everything out. Good work.
Wendy says
I like the border you chose. Hope you have enough fabric as I like that the block continues into the border.

I like how you added several cream borders and were able to make the pieced border match the blocks. I hope you have enough fabric to match the colors. I knew you would come up with something that was perfect as you have such a good eye for doing this and making your quilts absolutely wonderful. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.
Erin says
Very nice!!! You have that special talent Judy of putting it all together so beautifully!
Marion Morgan says
And it’s beautiful as we all knew it would be. Nice job, Judy.
Mary H says
Wonderful! Love the borders!
Sue says
Just perfect! I hope you have all the fabric you need to complete the borders in this design.
Pam says
You are the border queen! There is no question of that.
Melody says
The quilt will be amazing! But 8 borders. I can not imagine. I know it is just me. Borders are my least favorite part especially when the quilt is so big. It seems so unwieldy to manage and to square up. You go girl, you are amazing.
Margery Allcock says
That’s a lovely quilt – the borders are a perfect match. But it’s huge, isn’t it? My biggest was 108″ and that was scary!
Norma says
I love it and the border is perfect.
Marie Gilkey says
Will be a beautiful quilt as all of your quilts are!!!
rose barnes says
I bow to you! I have your border book and love the various looks. I am too often too lazy to do more than 2 borders.
But, then I miss out on a result like that!
Becky M says
Wow, oh wow. Nicole is a lucky girl.
Rosalie says

Linda says
Nice. This border definitely sets off the design well.

this version has the centers matching up much better, so maybe it was just the way the drawing was coming out yesterday. i do like this one with the centers matching.

That was the border I liked also. I didn’t realize you published a borders book and I will definitely check it out. Love your blog. You are a very interesting person and I also love to hear about you chickens.
KCLori says
I’m sure no matter what you do it will be beautiful. Please post pictures when you are done.
Susan says
Since you are the only one who has to like it, it works just fine. =) I’m sure Nicole will be happy with it.
Becky G says
They will be thrilled! I laughed ar your post today. When i read the comments on your previous border post,, i actually went back & reread your post to see if you had asked for input!… Nope. My first quilt teacher taught us to only offer opinions when specifically asked! Good advice,, especialky for me!
CathieJ says
The quilt with eight borders is gorgeous. Do you use a program of some kind to plan your quilts? I do that with cross-stitch but not with quilting. I would love to be able to play with both the quilts and borders before committing to anything.
Joan in NE says
Had good intentions of posting when you showed all the different borders. This is the one I would have chosen though, I just like the way it frames everything. Good job, can’t wait to see the whole top finished now. Keep stitching.
Cassandra says
Eh, who cares if your readers didn’t like the border you chose. 😉 I’m sure they’ll love it once they see a picture of the completed quilt!
Linda Steller says
LOL – Judy, you do know better than to ask for opinions! You get them anyway. If it gets any bigger, you can send it to me and I’ll quilt it for you. I have a 14′ table here.
