Our conversation from last night after we had a contest and the loser had to take Speck out in the cold, drafty night to do his “bizness”.
Vince (as he was putting on his coat): Speck doesn’t have any coats or jackets.
Me: But, I bought a pattern yesterday to make him a sweater.
Vince: When are you going to make it?
Me: Well . . hmmm . . uhhh . . . I have to wait for the yarn to get here.
Vince: NO! You DIDN’T buy more yarn from The Loopy Ewe?
Me: I didn’t have two skeins of any sport weight yarn!
Vince: I’m writing them a letter and telling them not to send any more boxes here!
Me: I already told Sheri you’re all bark and no bite!
Seriously, he loves to complain but I think he’s happy that I love The Loopy Ewe so much. He hasn’t said that but I do believe that’s what he’s thinking. And, if you asked him, he would deny that it’s true but I sometimes know him better than he knows himself! Maybe! Or . . maybe not.
This is the pattern I found for Speck and it’s designed especially for dachshunds.
That dog in the picture has much, much longer legs than Speck. In fact, I’m not even sure that dog in the picture is a dachshund . . but I don’t know. It could be the picture but his legs look long but his face looks like a dachshund.
Here’s my plan . . I’ll make a bunch of dachshund sweaters and then when Speck is no longer with us, I can say “But, honey . . we have to get another dachshund because I knitted all those sweaters that only fit dachshunds!”
Really .. I had one skein of sport weight yarn in my stash and the sweater takes two skeins. I ordered Madelinetosh Sport in Sequoia, which is kind of a reddish brown. I think it will look good on Speck. I guess I got the last of the Sequoia because I don’t see it listed on the website any more.
I was so careful to order on Tuesday because orders shipped on Wednesday arrive on Saturday, when Vince is home. Well, I must’ve ordered too late on Tuesday because it got shipped on Wednesday. Since I’ve told him already about Speck’s yarn, I’ll just not open the box in front of him and he’ll never know there’s other yarn in there!
You can’t really blame me because TLE got in a new color of Caper Sock by String Theory and it happened to be called Marmalade, which is orange and Nicole loves orange! Not my fault for sure. And it’s not my fault that you have to order $75 to get free shipping so something else had to get added and . . have I said lately how much I love buying yarn?
Mary in VA says
It’s a good thing yarn is small or you’d be adding another room to your quilting area to store all the yarn you get from TLE (Grin!) You are just going to have to start ordering on Mondays. I will say that Speck is a lucky dog to have such a considerate owner – one who makes special sweaters just for him.

The sweater is beautiful and it is really good to find one that should fit. That dog is in picture must be photoshopped! It looks a little “unsual” for a doxie!

What’s Vince’s email……… Just kidding! All your secrets are safe with me.
Linda in NE says
Yep, you sure do love buying yarn. And the yarn shops love you buying yarn. It all works out.
Diana in RR Texas says
I’ll have to use that excuse for another standard poodle. Still have the sweater Mom knitted for Tilly 1! I have been staying aeway from looking at their emails, however I did not delete the one that came yesterday or was it this morning? Will probably check it out after dinner!!!!!

Ha – tell Vince we love him and his sense of humor almost as much as we love you!

I think you’re right about the dachshund picture. Maybe they photo-shopped it! Dachshund head-terrior body!
Helene says
If I gave you my address would you send me your TLE orders?

Oh my gosh, you are cracking me up! Kind of reminds me of how I bought…. yeah, I bought another purse in December….
I seriously NEED to learn how to knit! All I want to know is how to knit socks. I’m having serious sock envy. LOL!

I can’t knit or crochet but really enjoy seeing everyone’s socks. My feet are always cold. I have two pairs of thick polar fleece socks that I wear each winter… I’m going to need to learn how to knit before my fleece socks wear out!

It’s a good thing I am home alone because I am seriously LOL!! You crack me up, Judy!

I always use that reasoning on dh…why spend money on shipping when I can use it towards buying something else, so I’ll just buy enough for free shipping. Yea that gets him. He pretends tobe a tightwad until he sees a tool he wants.

Have you ever tried to put a sweater on Speck before? I made fleece jackets for Max and Maisy and they were not designed for doxies so I had to put in some, uh, darts. And they velcroed on the top of their bodies. When I put them on, Max would writh and wriggle out of his and then undo the velcro on Maisy’s and undress her. lol
And the doxie in the pattern looks to be about the size of Lula. She has very long legs compared to M&M.
I’m interested to hear if Speck likes his stylish sweater!

With all the socks you knit, you DO knit them for Vince too, don’t you. How can he get new socks without new yarn!!!
