This morning as I was going through my email, I had one from Allison at Simply Sock Yarn. Even though I don’t need any sock yarn, when those emails come in from the yarn stores, I feel obligated to read them because someone took the time to write them and I never want to be rude. In Allison’s email this morning, she mentioned the newly stocked supply of Arctic Qiviut. I had to read it because . . well, it’s real hard for me to see a “Q” without a “u” behind it. I should not have read about it for several reasons:
- It’s warm! My feet would be so happy if they could get warm. I slept in socks last night!
- It’s durable!
- It’s pretty!
- It’s hard to get! That automatically makes me want it — anything that’s hard to get. I’ll spend half my day watching their website and when it’s all gone, I’ll be so happy I got some. I think that could be my hoarding
skillillness rearing its ugly head.
I normally wouldn’t pay half that much for a skein of sock yarn. But for all the aforementioned reasons, and for the fact that my dad takes blood thinners and his feet are always cold, I ordered a skein to make him a pair of socks and for the additional fact that I’m not making him a pair of socks unless I have some for my own self, I ordered a skein to make some for me.
I think I’ve reached my yarn buying quota for January but . . you never know what might happen! 🙂

I have never heard of it and can’t wait to try it.

you don’t do a stash report for your yarn… so you’re safe.
JudyL says
Yes, too bad some yarn shop doesn’t name themselves something that would make the husband think it’s groceries or gas or anything besides yarn!

I have scarf made from Qiviut and it is so warm and gets softer and softer the more I wear it. My DD bought it from a local knitter when she worked in Alaska.
JudyL says
That’s what I read — it gets softer with use and washings. I can hardly wait to try it.
Peggy says
Judy, your logic is so interesting.
Judy Laquidara says
I think I should say “thanks”! 🙂
Carolyn says
HUMMMMM I might have to look in to that, I only have 4 sock yarns I think. i too wear my socks to bed. best thing for cold feet

You do realize that today is Wednesday which means this will arrive on Saturday?
Cassandra says
Wow. I had sticker shock when I looked at that link. But it sure is pretty!

I bought some of this yarn several (read 4-5) years ago. I am having a hard time deciding what to knit out of it, because for the price it has to be pretty special. It also needs to be something that reminds me of BC Canada since that is where I bought it! Nobody who knows me believes that I actually spent that much on yarn!
Debi says
Judy you are so see through!!!
Helen Koenig1 says
Judy, gotta love your logic! But I think it’s only fair to tell you that the moment I saw the “Y” word (yarn) I KNEW what would happen – and it did! It is so pretty – but definitely out of my price range! Enjoy!
