A friend did the gorgeous applique on Addie’s owl quilt.
I told her I would make her a pair of socks as a thank you, even though she didn’t expect anything in return. That’s about the time I was again trying to make two socks at once on two circular needles. I figured after a couple of pairs, I would have that technique down, would love it and would make my friend’s socks using the two circs and then the socks would be a perfect matching pair. The more I used those two circs, the more I knew it wasn’t for me so I’m today starting my friend’s socks using double point needles. The only guidance she gave me was that she would love socks that she could wear with jeans.
It’s one of my favorite yarns – Caper Sock by String Theory.
The color is Tourmaline.
The best part — the content. There’s that 10% cashmere again. Love any yarn with a bit of cashmere!
I think these socks will be fine with jeans, don’t you?

What a beautiful applique! You’ve got a very generous friend to do such a darling owl on this quilt…and then, YOU are a very generous friend to do something so sweet for her! Friendship! What a wonderful thing it is.
Hope your day is wonderful.

The owl applique is precious! I too abandoned the 2-at-a-time method. Although I can do it, it seems to take 4 times as long because I am constantly pulling things through cables and untagling yarn balls. I do knit using 2 circulars, but only work on one at a time. I’m considering trying dpn again… my concern is dropped stitches because I haul the socks with me everywhere, and I seem to keep losing my point protectors. Happy knitting! No ice here in Tamale Land (yet) but they are saying it is a possibility. Further north at the “Big City” it is a real mess!

I think that tourmaline will be the perfect color for this particular person. She is lovely and the queen of applique! I will miss seeing her at Road to CA this month!

Are there socks that you *can’t* wear with jeans?
LOVE those owls — they’re adorable!

Love the quilt and the yarn! Have you tried doing 2 socks at a time on one circular needle? I used to knit socks on double-pointed needles but had a constant issue with lack of motivation to get the second sock done. Once I muddled through a practice pair of baby socks, I’ve never gone back to DPNs.

That applique owl is just precious!! I know your friend will adore the socks – I certainly adore the yarn and colors!!
What type/brand/size needles are your favorites for socks Judy? I can see another stash in my future. I just HAVE to learn to knit socks – one of my goals in 2013!
