The first section of the Stars & Stripes Sampler should be done by the end of this quarter . . which means the first section of the Stars & Stripes Sampler should be done in three days!
I’ve been thinking a lot about it . . though thinking and sewing are two very different things, right? You know what they say about good intentions. This morning after tidying up a bit in the sewing room . . really all I did was clean off the cutting table because I was back down to having about 4 squares inches on which to work . . I pulled out the Stars & Stripes Sampler box.
This is how much I had done!
The circles were drawn on that even Wonder Under or Steam a Seam . . I don’t even know what I’m using. The fabrics were pretty much all in the box except for a few more I saw that were in a stack of “to be put away” fabrics.
After an hour or sew of sewing and cutting and making a huge mess with that blasted sticky webbing, this is what I have done.
That’s decent progress. Now I’m starting on the Eagle.
Anyone going to get the first section done by the end of this quarter?

Good for you! Getting back to a project is harder than starting one! Ask me, I know. Micki

I guess we should all learn to never put them down til they’re finished but somehow, I don’t see myself ever learning that lesson.
Jevne says
Good for you, Judy. I’m also getting back to projects. I have four crib quilts to stitch down the binding, one side done on the first one. Wish I were done so I could get back to cutting and piecing (the fun part).
JudyL says
Always more to do than the hours in a day allow, huh?
Marion Morgan says
Love your colors. Cannot join you till all of Christmas is over. I know your eagle will be beautiful.
JudyL says
Not so sure about beautiful but it’s almost done.
Josie says
Judy , so proud of you getting back at a project and not even in the New Year yet.. LOL are you sewing around the circles and stars ,,if so by hand or machine.??’
I have looked at making this quilt many times just have not
started yet.
JudyL says
I will stitch around them, probably by machine, but I’m going to get all the blocks done, then do the stitching so I don’t have to change thread so much, then I’ll sew the blocks together after the applique stitching is done.
Vicky says
I’ll be working on mine starting the weekend after I get home. This will be my second S&S Sampler. I’m going to make my blocks in a different order than you, but I should get a few blocks done in January.
JudyL says
Yay! Are you going to go home all rejuvenated and ready to bust that stash? Hope you’re having a grand time!
Norma V says
no….i had the first block done the first month and then when i found out it was a by the quarter challenge….i figured i had lots of time….i have been looking at it too,….for the last two months now and then…
Kathy C says
I finished my stars. I am not home but will post a picture when I get back. Thanks for getting me started.
Mel Meister says
I got mine as a block of the month. I have all the fabrics together with the book. It’s organized. Does that count? LOL!
Debbie Rhodes says
I have all but the eagle done…. leaving tomorrow for a funeral so hopefully Sunday will a little time to sew…
Norma V says
well….nothing like a challenge, especially from judy….i WILL be done with the first section by the end of the quarter…i trudged out in the snow to my studio and pieced the flag and am now sitting on my butt in my comfy chair cutting out the eagle….feels soooooooo good…but now i am behind in two other things…

LOL. This is why I ove Stash Report and Design Wall Monday. It gets me doing things to have something to show. They are great incentives. And no, I won’t be done. I’m gonna have to make it my design wall project so progress can be made. Now if I could remember where I put the book and the blocks I made from Sept. Hmm….
Beth Strand says
Judy,
Just FYI, the book didn’t show up at Fons & Porter but I did find it for $5 at Keepsake Quilting. I’ve seen this quilt at shows and my husband liked it so guess what he’s getting next Christmas?
