We now have about a dozen weeks left in 2012. I’m still hoping to reach my goal of 200 yards in the “net used” column by the end of the year. It may happen . . may not happen but at least I tried. Do you have a “net used” goal you hope to reach by the end of 2012? If not, will you set one for 2013? My goal is going to be 200 yards net used for the next few years.
This week, I sewed a lot but nothing was finished enough to count. I still think I can reach 200 yards net this year . . maybe! 🙂
Used this Week: 0 yards
Used year to Date: 170 yards
Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 48.75 yards
Net Used for 2012: 121.25 yards

For me 30 yards would be almost impossible, but I bet you can do it by the end of the year. I did set a goal of 75 yards out for this year. I’m not even half way to my goal this year. I’m still trying, but doubt I’ll make it.

Woo hooo! I actually have some usage to report after a long dry spell — 12 yards used in the last three days — it’s a miracle! LOL

I was just thinking about my own goals when I was typing up my report. I would like to have a net of 100 yards used, but that would mean 23 more yards with nothing coming in and I am not sure I can get there. We’ll see what happens in Shipshewana in a few weeks!

I’ve made it to 82.5 yds., towards my goal of 100 yds. this year. I think I can do it! I also think I want to set 100 yds. as my goal for 2013. I want to use a lot of it up, eventually, but 100 is a lot, and I also want to bring in a little fresh fabric to keep it current and to keep me interested, so that seems like a workable number, and still progress.

My current goal is to have net 0 which means I need to use about 23 yards! But I’m so close to being able to count fabric for two tops and a small backing it’s not as daunting as it could be.

I did set a goal and have met that goal (100 yards), but not quite in the way I wanted. I gave away a lot of stash so far this year as donations to either my guild or our Church sewing group. I think next year I’ll separate the two numbers and see how much I really used for my personal projects. Maybe I should keep the number of quilts I made or started – LOL- also. Thanks for doing this – it motivates me to do something to destash even if it is only scraps.

I did not set a goal this year, but I intend to for 2013. My goal is just to end up with less yardage at the end of 2013 than I started with in Jan. 2013.

I think it depends on how detailed your tops are and if you can “speed” cut the tops. Seems to me like you are making some more intricate quilts these days and that takes longer – all those tiny pieces! Plus moving. And a grand baby! And knitting! Oh – and don’t forget the garden and that solar oven! All kinds of other fun things too. 200 yards is a big goal, but I do have to admire you for trying to stick to it! But I love all your other stories too! Cheers! Evelyn

Judy – way back when – eons ago, when I belonged to stashbusters – they talked of measuring how much fabric a person actually had (height of each pile x width of pile x depth of pile) – and then comparing that as well as doing the stash reports to show that the fabric is actually being (1) used, (2) rotated.
I haven’t figured out how much fabric I actually have yet – although can probably figure MOST of the fabric – just not all of it (I have each WIP in its own little bin – because I LOSE things otherwise!), and I haven’t totalled in how much scrap stuff I have (goal here is to use as much as possible), nor have I added in all the FQ stuff. I also have a LOT of fabric that is for clothing – which BADLY needs rotation as well – just is NOT to be added into the quilty stuff. Do we REALLY need to figure this all out?
Sounds silly I know – just thinking…. sorta.
