As parents, we’re always proud of our kids when they’ve worked hard and get good results. Today was Chad’s last day at Wal-Mart in Nevada, MO. He starts his new job Monday. Last night was his last day at the his bank job . . the second job he held. Weekdays he worked 7 – 4 at Wal-Mart and then 5 – 9 at the bank except on Fridays and he was off on weekends. I know he’s so tired from having worked both jobs and then the baby being up at night.
He starts his new job Monday. They probably won’t be moving til November 1 or even November 15 so he’ll be in a hotel during the week and hopefully will come home on weekends.
They had a going away party for him at Wal-Mart this morning with a decorated cake and all. I know that made him feel good. I wish I could have been there! We moved to Nevada on January 1, 2007 and Chad worked at a grocery store for a few months so I’m guessing he was at Wal-Mart there for close to five years. While Chad was in Pittsburg, KS going to college, he lived in the dorm and came home on Friday evening and worked at Wal-Mart from 5 – 9 or 10 and then worked on Saturday and on Sunday, he worked 7 – 4 and then headed back to school. Never once did he get to go to a football game at school because he worked every single weekend. It wasn’t easy but most things in life aren’t these days.
They may have found a house to rent. It’s one that’s been for sale for a while and hasn’t sold and they think the owners have agreed to rent it to them. Chad will see it Monday. They’ve debated about buying because real estate prices and interest rates are so low, there are all kinds of perks still available for first time home buyers but they know they’ll move often the first few years and I think they’re going to rent so that when a chance for promotion comes up, they’re free to go wherever they get the best offer.
I’m proud of them and I’m so happy to see him getting into a permanent job and he will have his own insurance and can get off ours! 🙂 Seriously, I’m so happy for them and can’t wait to see them . . soon! 🙂

This is great news. It’s always wonderful when our kids show the results of their good upbringing…and Chad is certainly doing that! You raised a really fine young man, Judy, and you can be very proud.
Ranch Wife says
You must be ‘bustin your buttons proud’ of that boy and for good reason! I’m thinking you’ve done a fine job and now you can applaud as he soars. A new baby, a new job, a new location, and many new adventures lie ahead!
Jane says
Congratulations to you & to Chad. Sounds like he was “raised right!”

So great to hear “good news” stories – I think that is why I like blogs better than the nightly news anymore!!! Best wishes for them in this new chapter!!!

I’m so happy for Chad and for you and Vince. I love reading about good things and this is definitely a good thing. Please give my good wishes to both Chad and Nicole in this new chapter of their lives. And Judy, I can see the large smile on your face! Your boy is all grown up.
Becky in VA says
You have so many reasons to be proud of Chad!!!!!
Young people starting their lives together with a good job – and a bright future ahead of them – isn’t that what life is all about? I’d like to say something about our upcoming CRITICALLY IMPORTANT presidential election, but I won’t.
I’m very happy for you, Judy – now go make a quick trip to visit them and that adorable baby girl – and hurry home to Vince and your chickens. Life is Good.

I am so happy for the entire family!!! These are rough times and so many people work several jobs to make ends meet and all those part time jobs don’t give good benefits. At least you moved enough so that Chad knows how it goes 🙂 I know he has worked hard for it and it is nice to hear a “success” story, especially when so many others are struggling. It gives one hope that there will be other good stories for other people too!

You should be very proud of that boy of yours, Judy. An industrious, hard-working young person is not as usual as it used to be back in our day. I remember going out job-hunting the very day after I got my driver’s license, and I had always done odd-jobs for people in the neighborhood before I could drive. Most of the young people I know just aren’t that motivated.

I couldn’t agree more! DITTO

I’m proud to share this good news.

I know how proud you are Judy and you have every reason to be. Chad is a hard working guy and it has paid off. This is just the beginning for them. Safe travels Judy.

I’m glad for you. I hope that some day my college graduate honor students will have full-time jobs too.

The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. Sounds like he’s emulated his Mom and Dad. Work ethics are taught not instinctive.

I’m so happy for Chad and Nicole (and you! Getting of your insurance is great – we’re still waiting for that!) I know what you mean about the kids working so hard – my Ariel is working days at the cafeteria in my office, then goes to Hostess at a restaurant Weds-Saturday night and all day Sunday. She doesn’t get a day off. And in November when she goes back to school, it will be worse. But, worth it in the end!
