Things are so close to perfect for our family but the one not so perfect thing has been Chad’s job. He graduated from college in May, 2011 and has not had much luck finding a job. He continued to work part-time at Wal-Mart, which is where he had worked through college, and he also works nights a local bank doing some kind of audit on mortgage documents. Nicole works part-time at Wal-Mart which she did during college and since graduation. Chad has been searching for a full time job and I could hear the disappointment in his voice each time he told me about another “didn’t get the job” story.
After quilt guild this morning, I noticed that I had a missed call from Chad. I called him and he told me that he got a permanent full time job! I believe that during his interview he was told they should make a decision “early next week”, which was last week. He was so hopeful and when he didn’t hear anything by mid-week, I could tell he was thinking he hadn’t gotten the job. By the end of the week, he was pretty sure he hadn’t gotten it but . . he got it! What it will mean is that Nicole will not have to work and can stay home with the baby and what it also means is that they will be moving which puts them almost 2 hours closer to my parents but get this . . the exact same distance from me. Hardly seems fair, does it?
He doesn’t even know all the details yet as to when he will start but he has to do a 2 week training at one spot and then a 2 week training at another spot and they have to find an apartment or house to rent so I’m not real sure when Nicole will actually move.
We all feel like a tremendous load has been lifted and things are looking up for Chad. It’s the type of job where he can spend his entire career . . as he says . . work til I’m 60 and then open my own Taco Bell franchise? Go figure! 🙂

I am so happy for Chad and Nicole. I had the same problem after I graduated from college. I was offered a job, but didn’t take it because I was earning more working part time in a grocery deli. I hope he really likes the job once he gets settled in the permanent location.

This IS good news… so hard for young people these days… I know I have two… youngest 26 is now a police officer (her big dream) but struggles to pay student loans… oldest 35 is single mom with 3 children struggles to make ends meet. And we are almost old people trying to figure out our retirement… and my parents retired struggle with their savings and social security… guess it is hard for all people these days…
Karin says
that is fantastic news! Too bad the job isn’t in Texas though ::grins::
Rita E in AZ says
I am so happy for your family, especially that Nicole will be able to spend time with her baby.
Linda in NE says
I’m so happy for Chad. Of course, Nicole may want to keep her part-time job just for the sake of her sanity and a chance to talk to other adults besides Chad. Being home with a baby 24/7 isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Maxine says
Congratulations to Chad and Nicole
All is going well now Judy you can start to relax a bit ……..with all the electronics these days communication is a breeze …….. and they will be reasonably close to Great/ Grandparents ………..who will be thrilled about that

Great news for Chad and one load of stress off everyone. Parents never stop being parents or carrying the hopes and dreams of their children.
Hope to hear more details soon.

Great News! Sorry that it doesn’t get them any closer to you. Being a long distance grandmother is not the best, but you can really spoil them when you are with them!

One of our sons wondered if he would ever get a job in his field with his two college degrees! He kept working at The Container Store (he started with them while he was a student), doing seasonal work sealing driveways and doing free-lance work. Almost 2-1/2 years after graduation, he just got a full-time job in his field that he loves!! As parents, I think that you & I can be proud that our sons had the philosophy that any honest work is honorable work while searching for that dream job!
Erin says
what a blessing..they will finally have a sense of security and be able to plan a future for them that they want..woo hoo! Congratulations!!!!

That is so wonderful!! Congratulations to him. My 26 year old son graduated in May 2011 too and hasn’t been able to find a job either. He had to move back in with us because he couldn’t afford to live on his own. His degree is in journalism and jobs are few and far between. He works part time at a Benigan’s restaurant and has been doing some free lance sports reporting and photography for a local weekly newspaper and other odd photography jobs when he can. We encourage him to keep looking. I’ll have to tell him about Chad. Persistence pays off!! Congratulations again.

Awesome news! They must be so excited and i’m sure it is a big relief to you as well. Ok now, since I’m originally from that part of the Show Me state, and knowing your parents are in LA, I’m going to just make a wild guess that they are going to be somewhere in the vicinity of Springfield??? If I’m right, tell them they will love it there. We have lived both in Springfield, and also near Ozark. It is a great place to live.

Go Chad! It’s the same w/ many. My daughter got the academic medal at graduation and had a great job in CA but then …children came along. She has three and stays at home w/ them till they get school age and has a dinky part time two day a week job at a daycare. That’s life. She hopes to jump back into her chosen field when the rugrats all get into school. I am happy though with the mothering job she’s doing. Excellent on that. We’re all in the same boat.
Valerie Boudier says
Isn’t it a relief – my son got his first permanent job this year after years of temping. He feels so much more secure now
Gari says
I wish he would do the Taco Bell thing now, in my town, cuz our’s lost their lease and shut down last year and we really miss it. But, I am so happy for him/them and you. I know it has been a worry (been there: worried that) and now it seems that they will be able to really begin the life they have planned for. And just think, they will have a new place for you to make quilts for. Good all around.
Denise in PA says
I’m thrilled for Chad and Nicole (and for you – THAT particular Mom worry can be relieved!). I wish him the best of luck for many years of success in his new job!

Lovely news about Chad’s job. Let’s hope it really will be a good company to work for until he is nearly ready to retire. There are so few of those these days–but it could make the long wait for the job so worth it. And how wonderful it will be fore Nicole to be able to stay home.
AnnieO says
Excellent news, indeed! Now that he is a family man, that’s even more important. Hope the move goes smoothly. Our daughter will graduate next May and I wonder what will be her fate!

Tell Chad and Nicole congratulations on the new job. Does that mean they will be leaving our beautiful state? Wherever they end up will be “home” and they will be together, so that’s the important thing.
