The books I’ve been reading are the Restoration series by Terri Blackstock. I had never read any of her books and she has so many but a couple of weeks ago, a friend asked on Facebook for book recommendations and someone mentioned the Restoration series so I checked it out. This is from Amazon:

Today, the world as you know it will end.
Vince has told me that I cannot say “EMP” in his presence ever again. When I start reading a good book, I cannot put it down. Vince asked me what I was reading and I showed him the title. He wanted to know what it was about and I said “I can’t say!” He kept on questioning me and I told him . . it’s kinda like something that starts with an “E” and ends with a “P”. He knew right off the bat and hasn’t asked any more questions about it.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the series. I’m going to finish the third book tonight so I guess I’d better go add the final book to my Kindle. Who needs sleep? 🙂
On Terri’s website, she states: “My goal is to write fiction that will keep you up all night.” In my eyes, she’s quite successful because I cannot put these books down.
Terri weaves her faith into her stories and there are numerous references to God and scripture in her books so if that bothers you, this series probably isn’t for you . . though it’s one heck of a good story!

I’ve read the first one and loved it, even though it made me feel a little uneasy. I know it’s futuristic (science?) fiction, but it seems possible. I didn’t realize it was a series until just last night when I was looking for something to listen to from Audible. I love listening to books. It’s better than watching TV while you knit.

Really, our electrical system is probably this country’s weakest link. Imagine a world without electricity….I’d rather not, thank you!!
Susan says
Looks like a good series. Reminds me somewhat of the two series by S M Stirling that I liked so much.
Linda in NE says
I like those too. Especially the “Dies the Fire” trilogy.

Thank you, Judy, for sharing the name of the series you’re reading. We only have a couple of her books in the library so I might have to order these. So many of our patrons read the Christian fiction that I’m sure they will go out.

Another book about EMP aftermath is “One Second After” Scary stuff!

I don’t think I could read that book. I once lived where the story takes place and it’s all too scary for me.

Interesting commentary, but I don’t understand why you can’t mention “EMP” around Vince? Maybe I am a little thick headed.

Sounds just the thing for reading on my holiday, so I’ve ordered all 4 books on my Kindle and now need to resist reading them until I go to Spain in a few days time.
Jevne says
OK, I’m dense….what is EMP?
Laurel from Iowa says
Jevne, that is my question, too!
Missy says
I love her books! I have most of them.

I just got through reading that series too! Our book club read the first one and then of course I had to read all four.

yep–lotst, what does EMP mean? love having god and scripture in books, but not futuristic ones. i am more a beverly lewis fan….love the amish books. they seem to do really well in a world without electricity. just saying. if the whole world was without it though, we would be in chaos because we are so dependent upon it. just even typing that helps me see that our perspective is skewed. we are soooooo attached to this world.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who doesn’t know what EMP means. Could someone please define it?
Judy says
Thanks for the book title reveal. Have to check ’em out!
Karin says
I, too, haven’t heard of EMP! I googled it and didn’t see anything on the first page, but maybe it’s something to do with emergency preparedness?
Kathleen says
I’m uninformed too! EMP???
Karen says
Electromagnetic pulse?
Kate says
Sounds like the same premis that S.M Sterling started in Dies the Fire. Truely scary book. Has quite a few in the series now… Ill try this one too. An EMP is a electromanetic pulse that whipes out computer chips and electronics of all kinds, think of all the things that are now controlled by computers…
The sun puts out EMP’s which can lead to tv and satalight disruptions during solar flares. There is a new tv show coming out next month with this same premis, Ill have to find out whos books they based it on. Thanks Judy!
