September 1 is when the Stars & Stripes Sampler project begins. You can read about it here. The pattern we’ll be following is in this old book but there’s a newer book out that also includes this same pattern. It’s Best of Fons & Porter: Patriotic Quilts. The newer one is easier to get and contains several patterns I’d like to make. Below is the book I’m using. I have the newer book too but it’s still packed.
There’s a newer book by Fons & Porter, Best of Fons & Porter: Patriotic Quilts. This book is easier to get than the older one I’m using and it includes the Sampler. There’s still time to order this and choose your fabrics. I’m using fabrics from the stash. I’ve started with these fabrics.
This is a start. I’ll add more fabrics as needed. The beauty of a sampler is that I shouldn’t have to buy anything but can keep pulling from the stash and introducing new fabrics as needed.
I’ve seen this quilt made and it’s gorgeous and I’m so happy to be almost ready to start on one of my own. Anyone else planning to do this with me?

I’m passing on this one but I do love your fabric choices. I love the background prints.

I plan to do it!

I might do some of the blocks in an American Hero quilt. I’m not a huge fan of samplers, but this has some elements I like, so I think I’ll sew along on parts of it with you. =)

Yes, yes, yes Judy! You did inspire me earlier this summer to join you! I’ve always wanted to make this quilt ~ I’ve had the original book for such a long time! Thanks for the little reminder ~ Sept 1 st has snuck up on me and I better start gathering fabrics!! Your great selections are inspiring me to get busy in the fabric stash! Penny in S CA!

I have a big box of red, white and blue fabric so I think it is time to get them out and use them. I bought the new book the last time you mentioned it. What is the schedule for this? Will it be weekly, monthly, etc.?
Norma in Oregon says
me, me, me!
Mel Meister says
Yep! I had bought this as a block of the month from a quilt shop but never did any of the blocks. I may have cut out the first block, don’t remember now. I just got the last shipment in with the final borders, so now that I have all my fabrics for the blocks, I’ll be joining in!

If i do with you. What does it mean? Do u answer questions along the way?

I made this quilt (top) 10 years ago, teaching it to my quilt group as a Block of the month project. It went in a tub when we moved and then built a house, and it stayed there for a long time. Inspired by your UFO monthly projects, I got it out and started hand quilting it in January; I quilt between my exercise sets 3 days a week, so it’s getting done slowly; I’m about half way through it now . As speedy as you are, you may finish yours before I do mine! It is a lovely quilt and I can’t wait to see what everyone else creates.

As you know, I made one many years ago and gifted it. That was one quilt that I always wished I had kept. I’ll be doing it with you, but I won’t be able to keep up your pace.

I am planning to pull fabrics today so that I can participate! I love your blog – keep up the good work!! Thanks so much just for being you!

I’m on board but I have to get my book ordered. Don’t know if it will be here in time. Hopefully I can catch up. I hate starting off behind right off the bat! Oh well, that’s the story of my life, a day late and more than a few dollars short!
