Whether you’re a human, a chicken or a cow . . surviving the heat is a top priority around here. The cows are all camped out right by the water tank, in the shade, near the humans who hand out treats.
See the green weeds and the leaves on the trees? Things look good still but we have no rain predicted and it’s been a while so things are going to be getting brown soon.
As I walked closer, they were going to all get up because they thought I came bearing treats. They’ve already had treats today so I stopped and didn’t get any closer. No use in them wasting their energy by standing up since I have nothing for them.
The black one standing on the left is one of the calves. They’ve surely grown up and I’ll be surprised if the owner keep them much longer. All four of the calves are boys . . probably not a good ratio to keep – 4 girls and 5 boys.

Today, and for at least 3 more days, we are to be over 100 degrees in Iowa. We have not had widespread rain since I don’t remember when. Last Saturday I had 2 tenths of an inch in the rain gauge when I came home from sewing with our group at the church……it was probably only 1 tenth of an inch of actual rain because there was a bug in there that could have raised the level of water in the gauge. At any rate, it’s very dry! I will sew at the local hospital today with the Featherweight Group and be thankful for air conditioning. What did our grandparents do to survive the heat?!? Do you suppose that if we all pray for rain the USA would get some much needed rain so we can continue to feed ourselves and part of the world???

Love the new blog! I’m sorry that you all are so hot and dry. Up here in northern Michigan, the high will be 87 and cloudy. Some rain predicted this week but not much. We are pretty dry as well but not as critical as you. I remember as a child, closing all the shades and drapes and keeping the house dark. Then off to work in the basement. Many homes had kitchens in the basement.
