There are so many sayings that we hear our entire life and sometimes don’t even know what they mean or don’t appreciate their meaning until much later in life. Two that came to mind yesterday are “Home is where the heart is!” and “There’s no place like home!”
It was almost noon yesterday before I turned the TV on, and only then because I wanted to check the stock market and it was then I saw what had happened in Aurora, CO. My heart breaks for the folks who where injured and the families of those lost, as well as the family of the shooter.
Several times during the evening Vince switched the TV to channels where the events in Colorado were being discussed. These events can happen anywhere. No place . . huge city right down to the small towns . . is immune.
Days like yesterday are when I am reminded how hard we worked to find a place out in the country, and how happy we are to be living out here. It’s so peaceful. I may complain about the heat, the bugs, the snakes. I miss Chad and Nicole but really, there’s no place I’d rather be — on our little piece of land in our little house out in the middle of nowhere.
As we were finishing up the outside chores last night, I glanced upward and noticed the silver lining behind a couple of the clouds. In spite of the heartache and pain suffered by so many every day, the sun sets, and the sun rises and tomorrow brings a new day. For many, the pain of yesterday’s events will stay with them for a long time . . maybe forever. I’ll pray for those folks — for their physical injuries to heal. I’ll pray for those who are hurting emotionally. I’ll pray that someone with broad shoulders is there to support them, to hug them when they need a hug; to listen to them when they need to talk; to cry with them when they need to cry. And, I’ll pray for the mom and dad of the shooter. Those parents have to be hurting terribly.
And, I will pray the same prayer that I pray every day . . that you, my blog readers, have a happy home, enjoy being at home with your family and that your home is a place your family enjoys being. For me, there’s no place like home!

Lovely message. And the picture is beautiful. I love my home too and am very grateful for what I have. Indeed, there is no place like home.

absolutely Judy. In today’s world we are always comparing ourselves to see who has what when we just need to look around and realize that home and family are what matter. The other stuff is just that. STUFF. There is another good saying……be happy where you are planted……..I know I am.
and yes we should all pray for those poor families affected by this tragedy. even the ones whose actions make you want to dislike. they may need the most prayers of all.

A heartwarming post today, Judy. My heart is also breaking for those people caught in the latest tragedy.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those people and their loved ones.

Judy — we live on the south edge of Aurora. Our daughter and her boyfriend live very, very close to the theater and were invited by friends to be there, where the shooting was. Yesterday was a tough day for me, just knowing that a changed plan could have meant they were in the theater and I could have lost the most precioius gift I’ve ever had.. Lesson learned is live each moment and enjoy life. It’s been a reflective year for me, with the fires burning here in Colorado — my own father was killed in a house fire almost 4 years ago. As I see people who “lost everything” as their houses were destroyed, I can only think of those few who lost their lives. The others only lost stuff. Now I can only think my parents (both gone) were watching over my daughter Thursday night and helped in her decision not to go to that theatre.

Judy, a lovely post and well -said. My daughter & her daughters went to that theatre for a midnight showing a couple of months ago. They could have easily been there for the horrific tragedy this week. Sometimes I feel like I never want to leave my house!

Great post, Judy. We may find things to complain about at times, but that makes our gratitude even greater. We see the whole picture with the bugs, snakes, heat, but we also see the silver lining and the peace and the love of home. Praying with you.

We all need to be reminded occasionally of the things that truely matter in the larger scheme of things.

Thanks, Judy.
This post was very timely and well said. I try to be grateful everyday for what I have. You have reminded me to send my thoughts to those who are hurting in Colorado and San Diego . You never know what is just around the corner. I’m sure none of those people knew how much their lives would change in that instant. Be grateful every day!

Well said, Judy.

Always looking for that Silver Lining. Life goes on in spite of the Tragedies. I too felt sad for the Mother of the shooter and join with the nation in prayers for a peace in their hearts to fill the hole left there by a senseless shooting spree.

Everyone else has pretty much said what I would say, down to the “Amen.” So I’ll just say, “Yes.”

Thank you for looking at the bright side, Judy. I’ll have to leave the news off for a few days, I think. While my heart breaks for all the victims and for the family of the perpetrator, I worry about the news media delving into this stuff in so much detail. I think it only serves to feed the sick minds of the next ones who hope to gain fame by doing something just as sick. I’m praying for peace and healing for everyone.

i am so grateful that we found out my grandsons in Colorado were not at that theater – one was at the movie, but at a different theater and the other was home sleeping. What a scary world we live in. Judy C
