Vince never quite understood my affection for Ruby. Those years that I loved and pampered her, I can’t tell you how many times Vince said “She’s just a chicken!” Well . . the tables are turned and now he pampers Roscoe and gets so upset if one of the other chickens (mostly goofy Otis) isn’t being nice to Roscoe. Having two roosters together with three hens is probably not going to work and Vince has been keeping a watchful eye on Otis to see how he’s treating Roscoe.
Over the weekend I began hearing construction sounds. I had not nagged asked Vince to build anything so I wasn’t quite sure what he was doing. He explained to me that he was tired of Roscoe having to sleep on the ledge without a roost.
Vince built Roscoe his own little roost and attached it to the ledge. There’s already a roost on the second floor but for some reason, Roscoe decided this was where he wanted to sleep.
When it got time to close the chickens up for the night, Vince was so excited to see what Roscoe thought of his new roost. I was in the shower. When Chad was little, there was always a rule that he didn’t interrupt my shower unless there was blood or smoke. I probably spend 5 minutes in the shower and I thought I was entitled to just 5 minutes of uninterrupted time. In the middle of my shower, I heard Vince ranting, calling for me to come outside. Is there blood or smoke? Probably not but I hurried out of the shower, got dressed quickly and went outside.
OTIS! Never have we seen Otis on the second floor and there he is . . smack dab in the middle . . spread out . . taking up almost the entire new roost Vince just built specifically for Roscoe. See the little black feathers hanging out. Roscoe is hanging on by a thread . . probably halfway being smothered by Otis. Goofy Otis . . he’s facing the wrong direction. He probably doesn’t even want to be up there but just wants to prove his dominance over Roscoe.
The next day, bright and early, Vince was outside building a larger roost . . room for both Otis and Roscoe.
But, guess who didn’t bother to get up there again. Otis! We haven’t seen him back up there yet. Roscoe has a nice, long roost on the second floor all by himself. Otis and the three bantam hens sleep in one of the laying boxes straight below where Roscoe sleeps.
Chickens and husbands sure are funny!

From my childhood on grandmother’s farm our roosters would fight till one killed the other. Not having more than one rooster to rule the roost. I hope it doesn’t come to that.
I remember Ruby. She was my favorite ever. I was sorry w/ time after you sent them on to another home that you couldn’t recognize exactly which one was Ruby when you visited.

You did it again – started my day with a smile! I LOVE that Vince is attached to his Rooster!
You could write a book about your CHICKEN ADVENTURES!!! 🙂 You already have the stories and pictures……now all you have to do is embellish!
And….by the way, now that you are doing applique, will we be seeing a chicken quilt in your future?

Thanks for the giggle today! I had to laugh at the photo of Otis facing the wall…completely uncomfortable, but trying to proof that he’s the boss…so hilarious!

Good chicken/Vince story, Judy. If I wasn’t at work reading on my lunch hour I’d have laughed out loud. My DH spoils the cats. He’s always scolding the one for being a big pest, but when I tell him to just give it a gentle swat he thinks I’m mean. So the cat keeps digging it’s claws into his leg for attention & he scolds it like it’s a 2-yr. old child, with about the same results. 🙂

Great Story! I was also expecting a recipe. LOL. I’m liking the look of the new blog. I’m wondering if the “next post” “previous post” “buttons” will show up some time in the near future. I used to love how easy it was to navigate your blog.

Right where Roscoe can poop on his head! ROFL!! (sorry for being crude… hee hee)

No. Roscoe faces the other direction and leaves it on the ledge where it all gets cleaned by us.

This story really got me to laughing, I wish I could have seen the pictures but I think the pictures in my head were far better. I have two male dogs that fight over my lap at times and I have to get on them for that. Sorry you had to cut your shower short lol…..

A man and his roster! Good post made me smile.

Late on commenting but Roscoe is the guard chicken, one away from they others so they can watch all around. Otis is just in with the flock.
Hugs!!!!!
