If you stay off your foot, and then we x-ray it again in two weeks and it’s better, you don’t have to wear a boot. But the doctor didn’t know that the garden was going to produce this every day!
4 quarts of tomatoes, 4 bags of purple hull peas, 2 bags of cream peas, 1 bag of okra. Peppers to be roasted, eggplant . . didn’t do anything with that. This Is not the time of year when I can sit and wait for a bum foot to heal. I’ve worked way too hard to get this garden to producing and I’m not going to let it go. Vince will be off, more or less, through Sunday so he can help and we’ll re-evaluate the situation on Monday. The purple hull peas are about done but the tomatoes, okra and cream peas are still producing lots and I’m not complaining!

Just wondering….why don’t you want to wear a boot? It seems to me with all you do it would be so helpful and it’s not like a cast that can’t be removed for showering, etc. When my daughter had a spained foot (from playing tag with her kids, barefoot) she wore a doctor-prescribed boot most of the time for about a month and it helped so much. She could tell when she took off the boot to shower how much it was helping because her foot would start hurting again.

It isn’t so much that I don’t want to wear the boot but the black widow spider bites are on the same foot and they don’t need to be all closed up. If I’m not standing, I’m supposed to have the foot iced and for at least another week, the spider bites seem to be issue #1. Once they’re certain they’re ok, they’ll x-ray the foot again and see if it needs attention or if it’s ok from staying off it.

I sure hope you are doing okay. What a situation! Nature won’t wait and you are right you have worked hard to recieve your goodness from the garden. You have to soldier on and use it! Be careful 🙂 BUT to use an oft quoted phrase ” get ‘er done” I have all the faith in the world that you will overcome this obstacle…and…heal up in the process!!
Happy 4th, glad Vince can be there to help!!

I meant “sprained foot” not “spained foot” obviously!

Judy, I know you’ve worked hard but lets be serious here. It would be better to loose a few veggies than suffer with a messed up foot for years to come. I’m not saying just sit around and do nothing but don’t overdo and do more damage to your foot. you know the old saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Just got back from vacation, and read about your troubles. I hope you are feeling better. I use Transonic Ultrasonic Bug Chaser fron Home Depot. It keeps away all sorts of bugs and creepy-crawlies without affecting people or pets. After a flea infestation (yuck) and a nasty spider bite on my hand (lost use of my right hand for over 2 weeks), I decided I needed to do something, fast. I think it works great, and you should look into it. Have a good Holiday-feel well fast!

lol, when i saw you planting that humongous garden, i knew you were in for it, good foot or bad foot. Take care of your self first. You can always replant a garden.

Feel better! What a time to be immobilized!

Your veggies in the basket look wonderful! I can see why you don’t want to lose anything, but as someone else said, your foot and your future ability to get around and plant more gardens and do more quilting are more important. However, I know you’ll not overdo (I have faith). Happy 4th to you both!

How are the spider bites-wounds doing? My daughter was bit by a brown recluse when she was about 16. Took to ER immediately and they started her on antibiotics as well. Healed ok but sure was scarey.

At least you can sit and prep. the veggies. You can get a lot of things ready to go and then refrigerate until you get help. Would dehydrating and freezing cut down the time needed on your feet when Vince isn’t able to help? I was in a similar predicament last year (no use of hand/wrist) during gardening season. It is frustrating not to be able to do what you want to do…I feel for you! Spider bites are not good and you definitely don’t want to experience complications related to them!

I would take that doctor some veggies and a few eggs and say, “THIS is why I can not stay off of my foot. So wave your magic wand and fix it…NOW. ” 🙂

I totally get how you feel! ((hugs))

I’ll bet there are a couple of high school kids in your area that would love to make a few bucks picking your veggies every day. And think of the great photo op that would be for your blog!!

What a gorgeous basket of vegetables! It really inspires me to look again for a CSA program.

Hi Judy, I hope you are feeling better. I am sorry about the incidents with the insects! We were away on vacation and I just read about it in your old post. Take care!
