It’s funny what people do when they get old. I remember my grandparents doing it and then my parents doing it and now we’re doing it. What are we doing? We’re cooking one steak and splitting it. We’re baking one potato and splitting it. Frugal? Stingy? Realistic? I don’t know but last week I bought a package of strip steaks on sale. For three good sized steaks, I paid about $9 for the three so that’s $3 each. We cooked one and split it. We sure are saving $$ on the food bill when we do that. So, for dinner tonight, we grilled the steak, baked the potato and had zucchini and bread.
The zucchini I cooked tonight were kind of big so I peeled them and then sliced them into fairly thick slices. In a little butter and olive oil, I sauteed a sliced onion and the zucchini, added fresh pepper and some low sodium soy sauce. We love zucchini like that!

Bob & I do that a lot too. Wish I would see a big drop on the scale but that doesn’t happen!

Sometimes it is just to hot to eat much so a smaller meal is better. I’ll buy the packages of chicken breasts but they are so huge that I can make several meals out of one breast.

We do it, too. Even when we eat out we usually only eat half of a serving, taking the other half home for another good meal.

We do that too. Less meat and potatoes, more veggies.

My parents do that too. Sometimes my dad and I split something when we go to DQ. I would split with my husband but he would eat more than his share! I loves food! Sometimes a full meal is just too much.

Yum Judy – I find that steak is beginning to get a bit heavy for me now as I get older – it slows down my normally fast system. I love zuchinni and when my uncle used to grow them and tomatoes and they both came in gluts! we used to saute tomatoes and onion and zucchini and then sometimes add a bit of cornflour salt and pepper or gravy mix. We would let this cool down then package it in freezer bags and store in the freezer and just defrost a bag at a time to put over the top of chops, or steak – yummy! My zucchini cant turn into that tonight as I am having chicken with it – unfortunately!

You make me laugh, out loud. I, too, remember “old” people splitting meals and thinking “why”? Uh-huh… ‘nuf said. 😉 Your dinner looks delicious.

We do that too, wish it did reflect on the scales though! Glad to see your comments visible again, good for Sara.
Congratulations on the successful ending to the saga of Bert, was not able to comment earlier. I can dress and cook the chooks but cannot despatch them, guess I am a wuss too.
Cheerio from Marie in W.Aust.
PS, Happy 4th July.

That’s funny, my family always did that growing up and I never thought anything of it until I started dating my husband. His family never shared steaks which always amazed me… I could never finish one!

There is a restaurant here that used to have a steak for two on the menu. I would tell them to give me 1/3 and hubby the rest. each of us could have it the way we liked and it was one price for the double meal.
it was the only time we ordered dessert because we had enough room! too bad more don’t “catch on”.
