Occasionally I’ll bake a cake or pie but with just the two of us, this empty nest that’s sometimes fantastic and sometimes I miss Chad so much it hurts, the cakes or pies either get old before we eat them or we eat them because they’re here and then we gain weight. Don’t get me wrong . . gaining weight is not a major concern around here but letting a cake or pie go to waste is a pretty big problem!
We love ice cream though. Right now I’m so hooked on that Blue Bell Red Velvet Cake ice cream. I keep it in the freezer in my sewing room and I sneak over there, fix myself a bowl of ice cream, sit at the computer alone reading email and savoring each and every calorie bite. Vince accuses me of hiding the ice cream from him. I am not! Every evening Vince asks me if I would like a bowl of ice cream. He’s such a sweetie. He’s going to get up from the sofa (think of all the smart remarks I could have inserted here), walk into the kitchen and fix us each of bowl of ice cream. I believe the flavor currently in the kitchen is Key Lime Pie. Each and every night I say “No, thank you!”. Do you know why I always refuse a bowl of ice cream?
Short of sitting outside alone eating bugs with my ice cream, this is what happens when we try to eat ice cream in the house. It is not worth the fight. Vince always gives Speck the last little bite. My rule is that you never ever feed a dog from the table or give him any people food and you’ll never have to deal with this. Obviously, my rules don’t apply! 🙂

We’re dogsitting for our son’s two dogs while he and family go to Destin, Florida. One is a 12 year old Dachsund and the other is an 8 month old Great Dane! We are discovering that every meal is an adventure! She’s just a puppy, but she’s so BIG! She thinks she’s the size of the dachsund and she’s a sweetie, but she wants to eat everything we eat! This will be a long week, but hopefully, all will go well. Oh, our cat is living in my closet!

My cat can smell ice cream six rooms away and here he comes pawing at the bowl and spoon and nothing will get in his way. I now give him a 1/2 teaspoon (vet said okay) in his own bowl. Saves everyone’s sanity when ice cream is served. Milk/cream will give cats diarrhea so don’t over do it with cats.

That looks all too familiar, except my problem is my cat Emma. Who thinks her name is really Emma-No. We never taught her to beg, she just does it. Every meal. No matter what we’re eating. So far the only thing she doesn’t like is peanut butter ice cream. (And that’s funny to see her reaction once she tastes it!)

I am guilty too. Our dog loved ice cream or anything else tasty that we ate. The only thing she didn’t like was lettuce or raw potatoes, lol.

jim always gives our dog, Suzy, the ice cream bowl to lick, too.

The same thing happens in our house, only with popcorn. I’ve almost given up popcorn because it is a constant battle with the dog.

Look at that tail wag! That last little bit of ice cream makes him SO happy! We have a cat that likes the last little bit….and yes, it was DH that got him started on it. I wonder, is eating ice cream alone in front of the computer kind of like drinking alone? At least you don’t become impaired. hehehe
Kate says
I have cats that do that when I eat cereal. Pawing at the bowl etc. Now I just give them some milk before I eat and we are all happy. Too cute!
PS Im sure youve heard that other peoples comments arent visable? It says there are X number of responses but they arent shown. Software can be such a pain sometimes! Take care and I hope the crawlys have stayed out of your bed!

I’m with you Judy, our previous schnauzer was given people food and while I don’t think she was as bad as Speck, it was still a pain in the butt–she watched every bite that went in our mouths especially if we were eating in the car, and she drooled! YUK! This schnauzer, Emmi, gets no people food–once was enough!
HeideW says
I guess you should give Speck his own bowl of ice cream and then he’ll leave you alone!

Who is better trained – Vince or Speck?

The Baton Rouge newspaper, The Advocate, has a food section each Thursday. This past Thursday there were several recipes on ice cream. They were Black Walnut, Green Tea, Lemon-Basil, Caramel Cappuccino, Brandy’s Homemade, and SuperChocolate. I cannot imagine how Green Tea ice cream tastes. I’m going to have to make it to find out.

When we have ice cream, we give our two little dogs each their own bowl. I have these tiny little glass bowls and they each get about a tablespoon and never any with chocolate. They love it so much. When we get the ice cream out of the freezer they both come running from wherever they are and sit there patiently until we put their bowls down.
